    Calvin Pace

    6 years 42 million

    22 million in gurauntees

26 million in the first 3 years

This contract will make Pace who has a whopping 14 sacks in 67 games one of the highest paid LB's in the game!

Last year the number sixth pick S Laron Landry received a 5 year $41.50 dollar deal, that number should increase a little bit this year. IMO I doubt the rats will invest that much money at the OLB position with all the help they still need on the DL, and an offense that desparately needs a playmaker (McFadden?) or even a starting QB (Ryan?)...

    you guys agree disagree?

I'm not sure, they're going to have to spend that money on someone in the #6 spot and clearly after the Super Bowl it looks like pass rushers are the way to defeat the Pats. What about Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey? I could see them being in the mix too....

I could actually see them bringing in a quarterback more than anything. If Ryan is still there at number 6, he's going to the Jest. That said, I think Ryan will be off the board when Atlanta picks making the liklihood that they'll take a DL even more likely.

Bryan Thomas is also in year two of a five year, $25 million contract.

They are going to spend a certain amount of money for that pick no matter who they select. my guess is that they will take the guy they think will help their team the most, whether it is a LB, DL or whatever.

    Sounds logical to me.

  7. I think your spot on. The Jets can't afford to spend more money on one position. They need almost everything. However, it depends on who is available. If they feel Gholston is the best available then they will take him. I say the pick is McFadden or Ryan if available.

They would pick Gholston just to keep him out of our hands. Just like last year when they picked Revis when they thought we were interested in him.

Following the logic they used when signing Calvin Pace, I think we can expect a really solid pick from the Jets at #6, like Joe Flacco from Delaware :)

My thoughts exactly. Priority #1 is to pick a player for your team, but if you can steal a player that fits in the pats needs at the same time they would do it.

Of the top elite players, they don't need OL (Long, Clady, Otah). They don't need DT (Dorsey, Ellis). Long and Gholston are too small for DE in 3-4. I don't think they will be taking QB. Pennington is making more than he earns and they are letting him play one more year as a "thanks for your service". Ideally they would look to trade down as their real needs are WR and DB. But if they have to pick at #6 that leaves McFadden or Gholston as a OLB project. In all likelyhood they would get McFadden here as he is better value, not a project, and is likely to sell a lot more jerseys. They also signed Pace for a lot of money, but they could draft a pass rushing LB as that seems to be the cool thing now.

Interesting statement...the Jets moved up and grabbed Revis 10 picks before the Patriots were on the board! What makes you think the Patriots drove that selection? Revis would have been long gone by #24 regardless...was there a story I missed of the Pats trying to make a move up for him?

The Jets had no pass rush at all last year, and it's not like Pace and Gholston wouldn't be able to play at the same time. Thomas they could always try to trade or just cut him or whatever. He blows. I can't imagine he would prevent the Jets from taking a potential star pass-rusher, especially on a team that has no pass rush.

The short answer is if the Jets think Gholston is the best value at #6 than that's who they will take. It will have nothing to do with Calvin Pace.

Why the jets WILL pick Gholston

Can a team have too many edge rushers? Give me a break!

Their LDE--nine-year veteran Shaun Ellis--hasn't really panned out and his speed is declining. I figure they're going for Gholston unless the Arkansas RB or the BC QB is available at 6.

Plus, they would love to give us the shaft. They'd positively gloat.

Trade down and go for the second most explosive offensive player right out of the box: Michigan State big play receiver Devon Thomas. And collect some more picks where the real value is, second through fourth rounds.

    Go Pats!

Same here. McFadden will be great for them but i dont think he has the right head on his shoulders.

I agree that the jets won't pick Gholston. That's because he won't available.
