Why the hell did the secondary play so far off the receivers

the two big issues that led to the loss in my opinion:

A) Brady is an average QB so far this year. He cant hit the open WRs and is just not throwing the ball well at all. The semi long pass to a wide open Randy Moss in the end zone was inexcusable. His knee is fine, so we can quit using that excuse. tom Brady is the best QB we have ever had and one of the top QBs in the NFL, EVER...but he is not above being called out when he clearly is having a terrible season.

B) The CBs suck...plain and simple. They play way too far off the ball and got shredded by Kyle frickin Orton. Give me a break.

Moroney was a none factor in this game. He missed a block that almost got Brady killed, and then i dont think he played more than a couple of downs after that. Its a shame because this was the game he could have showed what he is made of as a RB. another flop.

Agree with A. TB was decent but not elite in his play. That has to change if we are to expect the biggest success. However, JM knows TB and we should expect JM knew what to do to frustrate TB.

Disagree with B. First, we gave up no big plays and that normally is job #1 of the secondary. That accomplishment alone gives us a shot to win the game (as was the case today). Second, CB's playing off the WR's is a function of coaching. BB and his staff must have felt this was the best way to win the game. Keep in mind we are very likely a Gostkowski kick 6" to the left from winning this game.

I understand everyone's frustration (a lot of people are left with the 'd%#*!@t! We should have won this game'), however, we went into Denver (a place we have ALWAYS had trouble in) against a good Denver team, against a coach who knows us inside and out...... and held Denver to 20 points in 4 quarters and missed winning by very little. This game is no reason whatsoever to panic. TB's play was not great but not awful. The CB play was not great but not awful. Remember we're finding our footing with a lot of these new guys. There is every reason to believe this Defense will be playing better come December.

Although I agree the CBs did play a good amount off of the receivers, we cannot blame this loss on them. They gave up 20 points to a solid Denver offense. Our O didnt score once in the 2nd half, clearly this loss is on them and not the D

I hope you're kidding

Denver's season average coming into this game was 20 points a game. The Pats defense allowed 17 points in regulation, then a field goal in overtime. Further, Denver's 20 points was tied for the third lowest winning score with Carolina's 20-17 win over Washington.

Anyway you look at it the defense did it's job. 17 points in regulation and setting up a field goal off a turnover... you would hope your offense could score more than 14 points on its own.

While I agree that there are different gameplans for different games, they underestimated Orton's ability to hit short and intermediate routes and allowed the Broncos to go up and down the field. Our offense obviously wasn't getting it done.......

If they did that, then they should all be fired, that's all Orton is good that.

That's what's so perplexing with their gameplan.

It just made Orton comfortable and he was like, "Hey, I'm good!" We should have blizted the crap out of him like we did Flacco last week.

When Kyle Friggin Orton goes 35/48 for 330 yards and 2 TD's something is drastically wrong.

What do u think? Have you read the first post? I can' t compete with him , I know, but..

Yeah...I have no idea what you are talking about. Don't worry about it. You can believe whatever you want. I just disagree with you about Meriweather. I happen to think he is a very good player.

The secondary gave up a total of 17 points, and played off a lot in the second half with a 10 point and then a seven point lead.

The offense had the job of scoring ONE POINT in the second half and failed. Brady had Welker open for a touchdown at 4 minutes and missed. Did the defense fold? No! Brady had the ball again with more than 2 minutes left, needing to score a field goal.

And you guys want to blame the defense and defensive coaching!!!! They needed to understand that the offense was incapable of scoring even one point in the second half.

They scored 11 more points than the Broncos give up, on average. That's pretty damn good. How could you possibly defend a defense that allowed it's opponent to run 75 plays and pick up over 400 yards of offense, and allow the opposing QB to have a rating of 105 (I took out the INT because it had no impact on the game)???

People, no one in their right mind would gameplan and say "it's OK to give up 17 points" when the opponent averages allowing 6.5 points. Please explain to me how that makes sense.

I agree that our defense is not good enough to expect it to give up fewer than 7 points.

Call a spade a spade... Brady was off, way off with his receivers, his throws. He was using Welker like Bledsoe used Coates. Denver adjusted... we didn't - ballgame. The Defense conceeded the short stuff and the Broncos nickel and dimed us. IMO the defensive staff wanted to keep everything in front of them and eliminate the YAC that Denver had lived off of in their previous games. The defensive gameplan was sound, if your banking on an offense and QB to be somewhat effective with a few measley scores in the second half.

Brady is 1-6 against Denver... Belichick (with the Pats) is undefeated against the Broncos without a QB named Brady. Much like the Fish, Brady has a serious problem with playing this team for some strange reason. Let's not forget the collective 0-11 against old horseface himself. Denver just has our number.

Well if it was one defensive back, fine.. but it's the entire scheme that the d-back didn't seem to want to be beaten by the long passing play. Instead we gave up the intermediate pass and Orton was able to shred us. Say what you will about Orton, but he minimizes his mistakes and is very accurate.

I put it down to the game planning. Annoying as all ****.
