    From the Boston Herald--

The renaming of Evacuation Day, the day that Geo Washington forced the British out of Boston by placing the guns from Fort Ticonderoga on Dorchester Heights, has often been blamed on the Boston Irish who have taken it as their national day of celebration. It wasn't the case, however. During the Revolution, soldiers or civilians who wanted to enter an armed camp had to give a password and Washington's password for that day was --St. Patrick.
