Why didn't ESPN fire Jalen Rose for calling Gronkowski "white boy wasted"?

I don't think what he said warrants being fired. I think people definately overreact to comments like these. I do 100% agree that there is a double standard when it comes to political correctness. The problem of course, is political correctness itself. The sooner it dies and ugly death, the better off the majority of us in society will be.

BTW, Rose does some very, very good work in Detroit with a school he's running. It's a great story if anyone has the time to check it out.

    #12 Jersey

I think its time to grow up and move on. Sorry we can't correct all wrong doings that have been done since the beginning of time. I'm the farthest person from racism but I'm tired of this notion that we have to pay for what people did in the past that isn't happening now. It obviously shouldn't be forgotten so we can learn from past mistakes but I think it shouldn't be an excuse for someone to pay for this anymore unless they are actively participating or pursuing slavery. Of course this is my opinion not fact.

Not sure what's being paid for at this point, boxer.

Reminded of it? I'm also not sure anybody's ever reminded me of slavery, or had to. It's a good thing to remember, but most people will remember something so horrific w/o reminding. (and those who won't would be a waste to remind anyway)

My white ancestors were tenant farmers for the Brits in Ireland at the time. After their land was stolen, and their religion was outlawed.

See most people have had hard times somewhere in their history, so how does that exonerate someone from racist comments.

BTW there is way too much PC going on, the objection is to the double standard.

Chico.... Instead of swooping in with your "I like" messages, why don't
    you address the real issue.

Double Standard..... Whites cannot say anything against a black without
the fear of losing their job, while blacks can say just about anything about a white
    with no repercussions.

We are talking about Jalen Rose a multi millionaire, not a poor slave
    from the 1800's.

There is not a person alive today who has owned a slave, yet rich black
children are given the advantage over poor latino and Asian, and caucasian
children, because of the color of their skin.

Step up to the plate Chico and address the real issue.

Yeah, but the kicker is that no white person walking the soil of America today is guilty of enslaving anyone. As a people, no caucasian should feel a milligram of guilt over slavery today.

I don't carry any guilt over slavery and neither do you jcdavey!!!!

    Especially us folks from Boston!:D

Nor should he. Because no one owes any dead person anything. Unless we want to dig up our ancestors responsible for slavery and make them pay the dead slaves....

    Seems kinda messy to me....lol

It's a No Win battle Joe, millions of people know your right the Double Standard in America today when it comes to racism is disgusting, the hard core liberal and many conservatives love to puff up their chests and crow to each other over how Good they are and how much they despise Slavery, we all know slavery was wrong and it was fixed, IT IS NO MORE but in their little slobbering f-cked up brains they want with all their heart and souls to keep it alive right along with the N word, young blacks will never let The N Word Die, Bill Cosby scolded them for this and he was all but ignored by the Liberal Media, they didn't want to hear it especially from another Black Man, Chris Matthews drooled for whole month and had to be sedated.

There is much Racism in the minority community but Bat Sh!t Liberals like to make believe it isn't Racism.

Asians are the victims of Racism RIGHT NOW but Liberal America is just looking the other way.

SLAVERY HAS COME AND GONE IT NOW JOINS ALL THE OTHER THINGS OF THE PAST THAT HAS INVOLVED MANS INHUMANITY TO MAN.

NOW WATCH WHAT HAPPENS TO ME------------:singing:

"white boy wasted" does not seem all that offensive to this casual viewer of life.. there is nothing in that statement that connotates anything negative about his race.

Not much different than the "Girls Gone Wild".. if Rose had said "Honky white boy wasted", would be different.

    Much ado about nothing..

By your logic, you must also agree that "black boy wasted" is fine too.

    Agree?

Next time you are in Target see if they have any brains on sale, the term "boy" for a black person has a different connotation than "boy" for a white person.

Why don't you try an experiment, next time you see a group of white kids on a corner ask them a question and refer to them as "boys" and see the reaction. Then go to a corner where there are a group of black kids on a corner and refer to them as "boys" and see the reaction. Very simple but powerful lesson will be learned.

Different words have different meanings to different people..

Not many blacks at Target near me...but WalMart is a different story!

    Ok...now we're getting somewhere!

So if a media personality said "black guy wasted" by all acounts, there should be no problem, right?

If one can point the color of a caucasian person's skin, then one should surely be able to dot he same for all people.

Now would you agree white boy?:D
