This guy that everybody is high on ran a 4.8 40. That's really bad for a reciever. We all know that speed isn't everything, but look at Rashan Woods, Mike Williams. Avant will be lucky if he's drafted, you guys need to get over him.

he ran a 4.8 with a broken hand..casted

originally at combine he ran a 4.52

I think we'll find he's no slower than Givens and he has a lot of receiving skills. He certainly isn't a 4.8 guy.

Thanks for the info, I will look into that. If indeed he did run with a cast, I will shut my mouth and look at what he ran without a cast.

there's something off about that time, though i don't believe he actually runs in the 4.5's. i see him as a 4.6 guy. people are high on him because he has the best hands in the draft. reminds me of kevin johnson. he'd be a good value in early round 4.

Givens was actually a WR/HB .. and ran a 4.56(similar to Avant)
Both are 6"0..possesion WRs. both are good men...characteristics. Givens likely a little stronger while i believe Avant is a more athletic WR

I love Avant. Great attitude and just a move the chains guy who gets the job done. Sign em up!

Having watched Avant the past 4 years, I can tell you that while he is no burner, he's probably the most sure-handed receiver we've had at Michigan. While Braylon Edwards was the spectacular player who made the highlight reel plays, Avant was a more reliable target. Frankly, the guy just NEVER dropped the ball. He was big, strong, had a good attitude, and was a leader. Is he an NFL #1 guy? No way. But he could be a solid #2 in the right system. I think he'll need maybe a season to get the hang of the pro game, he's not going to come in and contribute right away, but he would be a good addition to the Pats in the 3rd or 4th round.

No Mike Hass does, AND IT AIN'T CLOSE. Hass has body control like Moss and TREMENDOUS hands but thats about it .He will make it in the league with those atrributes or he won't make it...

If you want to talk about body control and hands, Avant is your guy. I can't find a link to his amazing catch in OT v. Michigan State in 2004, but check this one out, from OT at Iowa last fall.

Here are a couple more Avant highlights:

(If for some reason that link doesn't work, it's on this page http://iblogforcookies.com/iblog/C1391440611/index.html about 1/4 of the way down in the Iowa game section.)

WOW, that catch in the back of the endzone against Iowa was amazing.
I thought for sure that ball was going to sail out the back of the zone. The guy has LOOOOONG arms, thats for sure.
