Who is your NFL MVP?

I disagree, Revis has made a massive impact but without him would you honestly say the Pats wouldn't at least be 10-4?

I was on J.J. Watt early in the season. Nothing has changed my mind. He should be the MVP. His season has been outstanding.

As much as I want to say Gronk or Brady it has to be Watt. Otherwise just call it an offensive award.

I was kinda hoping Brady would get his 3rd but anybody but PM is okay with me at this point.

I was going with Jay Cutler...but i guess Geno....

The case against Watt is that his team isn't very good. In fact his very best years have coincided with some of the Texans worst. A case can be made that as far as value goes, the Texans can and have easily been terrible with or without him, so what does he really bring to the team.

Gronk or Even Revis could at least be said to bring noticeable improvement to their teams as a whole.

Brady or Rodgers depending on how season concludes. Watt is great but he doesn't have near impact Brady and Rodgers have. Brady and Rodgers could carry most teams into the playoffs. Can't say the same about Watt. Watt is easily DPOY though.

The thing is, we're just arm chair quarterbacks. This writer is a sports journalist, and has an MPV vote so what he says is going to carry some weight. Reflecting on how he lays out his reasoning, I would be okay with Revis.
Watt, as good as he is, is on a crap team. Brady, as good as he is, has had some poor games. Revis has been on all year and he definitely has an impact.
A good record has always been a must. Just look at the Heisman winners. How many of those guys came from teams that weren't contenders? Like I said, it doesn't matter a whole lot to me, but I would have no gripe if Revis got it. He won't, but it would be interesting if he did.

Well someone on this forum told me at the beginning of the year that I was an idiot for thinking Chris Jones was just a situational pass rusher who wouldn't have a huge contribution, so I assume that we will be giving Chris Jones the MVP

Rodgers is having a season similar to Brady in 2010. Without him the Packers would be in the running for a top 8 Draft pick.

I'd love to say Watt, he's the best defensive player I've seen since LT, but with the Texans sitting at 7-7 even with him having a season for the ages, how can you state he's the most valuable player?

Like it or not and it's most certainly a cliche - it's a Quarterback driven league and if you don't have a good one, you're going nowhere.

Rodgers by a bit of distance from Tommy then The Forehead.

Agree.. unless the Packers completely collapse and we secure HFA Rodgers earned it over Brady.

Watt will get his defensive player of the year award and thats what he deserves. But if you put Rodgers/Brady/Manning on the Texans they become more likely to win than with Watt. Pointless argument as long as the NFL is dominated by pass.

I think he is easily the defensive player of the season but I take team success into the most valuable equation and Houston isn't even going to the playoffs.

Its going to be Rodgers, but if I had a vote, it would be Gronk.

My myopic patsfan view says Brady, Gronk or Revis.. but it will probably be Rodgers.

Rodgers will get it. I'm also thinking Brady will be co-SB MVP (Revis.) And I'm okay with that all day long.

Rodgers : Pros vs Cons

Rodgers impresses with his efficiency: 35TD/5 INT and 8.4 yds/attempt. His league high passer rating and QBR reflect his efficiency.
Unfortunately for Rodgers: He's #3 in TDs.....He's #7 in yards...#13 in completion % (among full season starters)....and he shares top of the leader board status in Passer Rating and QBR with Tony Romo......which forces me to diminish the importance of that rating.
Looking at these stats, except for his efficiency, Rodgers has only been above average.
I view his fleet of weapons as above average. Very few teams wouldn't want the Nelson/Cobb duo starting....and a majority of teams would start Lacy ahead their primary back
The eye test: Hands down, at least in my book, Rodgers is the best of the best right now......but....
...Rodgers 2014 is not exceptional....except for his TD/INT ratio. In fact, Rodgers has suffered road anxiety this year much like every other elite QB. Green Bay is 3-4 on the road and Rodgers has been below 210 yds in 4 of those games. In other words, Rodgers has not been special or exceptional...except at home...much like all the elite QBs this year. Again, except for his efficiency, nothing about his 2014 season is anything more than above average

Rodgers. Brady 2nd, Watt 3rd, Gronk 4th, Manning 5th.

Without Rodgers the Packers aren't a playoff team. Their defense is crap and they'd be an average offensive team without him (in my opinion). He and Brady are similar in many ways, the difference is Rodgers is considerably better at scrambling, even with the improvements Brady has made this season. He has better numbers on the year, and I believe the Pats would still be a playoff team given a strong defense and special teams, and a dominant TE who would succeed with anyone throwing to him imo.

I'd never vote for Watt to win, and don't believe he's as valuable to a team as any of the top 3-5 QB's in the league, but feel he deserves recognition for what he's done. Which is why the NFL MVP voting sucks: they should vote top-5 or top-10 the way they do in other sports, allow for some recognition of the guys who won't ultimately win.

Has Rodgers been special?
His two games vs Chicago....10 TDs/0 INT........Brady's one game vs Chicago....5 TDs/0 INT. I'm going to label any game vs Chicago a padding opportunity.
What division did the NFC North play against this year.....NFC South...a combined 18 W/37 L.
My point......Rodgers is having a very good year and taking advantage of the softness on the schedule. I don't buy the argument that he is carrying his team given the plus tools on his offense. GB is an above average rushing team with WR weapons most teams would drool over. Three GB players... Nelson, Cobb, Lacy....are in the top 15 in the entire NFL for YAC (yards after catch). Saying Rodgers is carrying this offense is a slight to these 3 players that do an incredible job boosting Rodgers' stat page. Again, I am in the Rodgers camp as saying AR is the best QB in the NFL......but .....his 2014 doesn't warrant special accolades....
......Watts' season does
#3 in Sacks....17
#2 in Combined tackles for DL....64
#1 in Passes defended for DL....10
One of only two top 20 sack specialists with an INT (80 yd TD)
3 Forced fumbles
5 Fumble recoveries (#1 in NFL)
3 receptions
3 TDs (#3 on team)
100% reception %

My list of 2014 Exceptional players
1) Watt.......Superman on D
2) Murray......it took 14 games before the workload he has been asked to carry finally took its toll
3) Antonio Brown......the most consistent WR in the NFL. He gets it done every game.... yds/receptions/TDs
4) Bell.......total production takes a backseat only to Murray. The Pitt GM has been nailing his skill player draft picks
5) Gronk........another Superman whose greatness has been limited by early season precaution
6) Rodgers......most efficient QB but basic stats on par with peers...nothing more
7) Revis......his impact is real...unfortunately his reputation affords him very few opportunities to fill up stat sheets
......Julius Peppers deserves mention as well. He is everything Watt is but without the high sack numbers. His impact on that Buffalo D is very real
