Now that the election is over, just curious to see if some of the rhetoric was political, not actual fear.

Select as many as you want.

I don't believe him at all because he or his promises are unrealistic.

Well I crossed my fingers and pulled the lever for him so I hope he's the centrist he ran as and will stand up to the far left in the party.

I voted a socialist. While I do not think he could ever successfully get away with it in the U.S., I do believe that he will try to steer America in a socialist direction. His "spread the wealth" comments were especially illuminating as that is purely a socialist moniker. HOWEVER, with that said, America wants him and America feels as if he is the right choice. I will go along with America and give Obama the benefit of the doubt right now. I want to see improvements in the economy, however minimal, and a withdrawal of our troops in Iraq. That is when change will happen. I'll give Obama my stamp of approval (reserve the right the take the stamp away though :D). I wish him well in office. If he does good, it's money in my (the working man's) pocket essentially. If he doesn't, I reserve the right to ***** and moan until no end because I voted for McCain. :D

I think he's friends with bad people. I think that's virtually indisputable. Whether he's unduly influenced by them is debatable. I think he's unqualified. That doesn't mean he won't be up to the job but his resume as of now makes that uncertain. And while he may want to govern from the center I think he's a liberal at heart - not a socialist but the most liberal President we'll have had in a long time which is a bad match with a liberal Congress.

The only thing America really know is "who want to be a millionaire, fear factor, bachelor, survivor, american idol" shows. Besides these wonderful reality shows, some of us don't know much.

Patters, this poll is absolutely unfair, anyone who has studied it knows that a Marxist can not be a Socialist, however the converese can be true.

I won't try to tell you what I "think" about Obama, I'll tell you what I KNOW AS FACT.

    Obama is extremely disciplined
    Obama is extremely intelligent
    Obama is extraordinarily gifted orator
Obama is a unifier of people
Obama WILL re-energize the American people
    America LOVES Barack Obama
    The World LOVES Barack Obama

There are some things we can debate about Obama, but the above facts are undeniable....PERIOD.

I picked "unqualified" even though I voted for him. The man is very smart, I'm hoping he can become "qualified" in a hurry with people like Joe Biden at his side.

Curious as to how 11 people could think that he is "none of the above". Umm, he's stated himself that he is a socialist...

I haven't seen Biden in weeks. I beleive they dropped him down into a hole somewhere so he couldn't continue to say dumb things. Now that Obama is elected and he doesn't need an "experienced running mate" to win an election, I expect Biden to be placed on a ranch somewhere in Montana never to bee seen from again.

Well, most are debatable. He is a friend of a terrorist, and he is a poitician from Chicago, so that AUTOMATICALLY makes him corrupt. Other than that, the rest are debatable.

I know, I know. I don't think he's "totally unqualified" to be President, just really green, and the lesser of two evils.

I clicked both since I'm not sure how Marxist he is yet. He's at the very least a socialist to the extreme.

The only right wing scare tactic that had me a bit concerned was he might not be fully supportive of Israel. Its not on the list above and his appointment of CoS ended that concern for me.

Where are you getting your information from?

Anyone who has read the first thing about Marx knows that socialism is what Karl Marx fathered.
Marxism is Socialism and Communism is the ultimate goal, what the world will one day become, after the globalization of socialism.
There cannot be a communist country, that is a goal for the whole world, once socialism has spread throughout the whole world.

You are confusing Socialism with Social Democracy. Two different things. Some posters even confused National Socialism which is Hitler's ideology with Socialism which is Marx and Engels', here on this board, in the past.

The other pathetically funny thing is that if you knew the first thing about socialism, you would know that they do not believe in gaining power through the electoral process. Revolution is what they believe in. "Revolutions are the locomotives of history" is a famous quote by Marx.

All these people accusing Obama of being a closet socialist, may I remind you that Dr. King's foes used to scream out the same venom a few decades ago, in this country, that he was a communist, that he was anti-American.

    Wake up people!
Go read a book or two; and not by anyone with an agenda, only.
Go learn what these words mean, before you start using them.

Otherwise, you may just end up on the Republican ticket as a VP candidate, talking about the country of Africa.

I only selected 'socialist' ... I still think he will try to be a socialist as it may be adapted slowly into our framework. If he can serve 2 terms he will achieve some semblence of this ... if he only serves 1 term he won't have time because he has to take the shock away from however he wishes to morph it to today's government. So ... not socialist in a strict term, but socialism really in some milder form.

I would argue most of these, though some are only semantics.

Disciplined how? How do we know it, and what about some things about him where he can't discipline himself (like his smoking)?

Why extremely intelligent? He's a bright guy no doubt, but is it extreme? Just semantics here, but to me its like when all the sports writers start calling the next hot coordinator a genius. That label doesn't even apply to Belichick, though he's a bright guy as well.

No argument on #3, the man can give a speech.

No evidence that he is a uniter of people. We just went through a very divisive campaign, and Obama has not shown a great willingness to go against his party.

I don't know how you could say this is a fact. We hope its true a la Reagan, but we have no idea right now.

52% of America VOTED for Obama, and of those I'm guessing not all 52% "loves" him, so I'd say that probably isn't true.

Again, some do and some don't. He's certainly more popular worldwide than Bush or McCain would have been as Prez, but it isn't universal.

On the last 2 its also important to note that what people think right now is immaterial, its what they think of him once he starts making decisions that matters, once the honeymoon is over.

edit: I voted unqualified although technically he is not, he fits all the requirements for being President of the United States. I also did NOT vote muslim even though I think technically he is, just a non-practicing one. I thought if your dad was muslim you automatically were, and there's no getting rid of that. In both cases though the technical answer isn't really what I thought you were looking for Patters.

I would definitely agree on this point. Not saying that he can't be, but there's really no evidence in his past that would prove he's a unifier or that he's bi-partisan. People might say that the results of this election prove that he is a unifier, but I would argue that as well. His ability to take some traditionally red states is likely more from the terrible opinion of Bush.

I hope he is though, I'm not rooting for him to fail.
