Both Running Backs are from the 06 Draft. I got into an argument with someone about Maroney's and Williams' speed.

Which Running Back do you think has the better speed? Maroney or DeAngelo?

I think its DeAngelo he looks more quicker, Maroneys fast too dont get me wrong but id give the edge to DeAngelo on overall speed.

SI had Williams listed at 4.55 in the 40

Maroney is listed at 4.48

As for game speed, I haven't seen enough of Williams to compare, but I'd say that Maroney looks faster than Addai to me, even though SI had Addai listed at 4.41. That could be a valid observation on my part, or just my eye being fooled due to stylistic difference.

Neither. Laurence Maroney does.

Maroney. Williams has speed and I like his moves/footwork, but Maroney's top gear goes a little higher.

His HC at Minnesota said Maroney was the fastest player he's ever coached. Go back and watch that 93 yard TD run, and you'll agree :)

D. Williams: Nice college player. Can't carry Maroney's jock.

looking at their builds, i would imagine deangelo is faster...

however, hes defenetely a finesse back, and nowhere near maroney's standing

I have previously heard that the combine times can be a bit misleading: players react differently when in pads on a playing surface compared to running a track in sprinting gear. It allows for a margin of error b/c obviously game speed is what matters. Anything as close as this is a toss up once they get into a game.

Fairly certain that Maroney ran a 4.38 when he was in college.

Does it matter?
I think what really matters is what results they can produce on the field.
If you go strictly by the 40 times Maroney is faster.
Look up their agility drills and 3 cone times in the combine and you'll get an even better picture.
Look for the 20 yard split to get a better idea of their initial burst.
