Goodness, why is this poll necessary? Why do we feel compelled to drag ourselves through the negatives again and again? 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 all fell short of expectations because they didn't win it all. Each season had its redeeming qualities, but each ended up short of the ultimate goal.
Super Bowl 42 was painful as hell.... we get it. They blew a huge lead in Indy in the 06 AFCC... been down that road once or twice since. Todd Sauerbrun, Champ Bailey, and Jeff Triplette, among others, help derail the Pats in Denver in the 05 Divisional round... I seem to remember that as well. WHY is it necessary to revisit this crap? These threads seem to pop up with alarming regularity around here...
Next poll forthcoming: Which Play Hurt the Most?
(1) Tyree's Miracle
(2) 3rd and 20 to Moss comes up 6 inches shy of a miracle SB winning TD
(3) Not converting 3rd and 4 in Indy
(4) Marlin Jackson's INT to end that one
(5) Reche Caldwell dropping a 4th quarter ball with no defender to be seen for 20 yards (and Tom Brady not seeing that earlier in the play, so Reche could have skated into the end zone [had he friggin held on to the ball])
(6) Champ Bailey, and everything surrounding that play
(7) Heinous PI called in the endzone in Denver to give the Broncos 7
(8) Bernard Pollard...enough said
(9) Brett Favre somehow can't see a 500 pound DL getting in the way of a screen pass, and no one can bring him down as he rumbles to the endzone
(10) Brett Favre feels compelled to rush his O to the line, fires a bullet to his slot left receiver... which of course is picked off... and replays show there were about 543 Dolphins in the area, so even if the ball WAS caught, there would be no real benefit to the Jets anyway...
(11) Jabar Gaffney, Indy, 2008...
(12) Dave Thomas, Indy, 2008...
(13) Dustin Keller, Foxboro, 2008, 3rd and 15...
(14) Drew Bledsoe hits a Pittsburgh DL square in the numbers with time running down, AND WITH THE LEAD, on a Saturday night home game in 1997, leading to a Steelers OT Win, giving them the 2 seed and the bye, and the Patriots the 3 seed, which they use to beat Miami, but subsequently lose IN Pittsburgh in the 2nd round
(15) Kicking deep to Desmond Howard, and Adam Vinatieri getting held (seriously, watch that replay, he got yanked from behind when he could have made a play... remember, he ran down Herschel Walker in Dallas earlier that year)
(16) Bledsoe throwing behind a wide-open receiver (Brisby?) in Cleveland in the 1994 playoffs on 4th and 10...
(17) Chad Pennington floats a perfect ball at 0.5 MPH over everyone in the back of the endzone in Week 16 of 2002, putting the Jets ahead to stay, and ultimately costing the Patriots a playoff birth...
Alright, I think I've made my point... I've given everyone who wants it enough angst to last them through the offseason
Seriously though, I don't get what threads like this seek to acccomplish...
