Its kind of hard to say. The two pass interferences in the Colts game were atrocious. However today...the holding call was terrible and it took away a brilliant 80-90 yard INT return. For many teams getting that called against them is a killer. As for the "pass interference"...now that was just sickening. A total disgrace. The referee was right in front of it...the Charger defender NEVER touched him and he threw a flag anyways. I seriously began to wonder if the game was rigged at that point.

Which game had worse refereeing? The 4 Nov game at the Colts or today's SD vs Colts?

I think today's was actually worse. As a Pats fan that is hard to admit, but I think it's true. What say you?

didnt watch todays but i have a hard time believing anything could possibly be worse then hobbs getting tackled from behind while trying to get a int and getting flagged for PI on it. it's just not possible. Unless there were flaggin players on SD's bench?

Some of those calls against the Chargers makes one wonder exactly what the refs are looking at or what they perceive to be seeing. I wonder how Pereira explains this on NFL network. I hope Eisen calls him on it.

The PI pm the Colts 2nd TD, was not even close.

I have the game on the DVR, and when the Colts got flagged near the end of the 1st half for illegal contact, and the ref (after taking a call from Polian) said that they were waiving off the flag because Rivers was "out of the pocket" is complete BS!, the ball was snapped on the right hash, and that is exactly where Rivers was standing when he threw it.

Then the Addi tackles a Charger and the Charger gets called for holding on the Cromartie Int and TD, that was too bogus.

I think that the NFL is actually relieved that the Chargers won this game, because they had 14 points stolen from them right there, If they lost this game, the "classy" Chargers would have been screaming about the officiating, and rightly so.

The holding call at the end of the half rivals almost any bad call I have ever seen.

When Hobbs was called for that PI and when Moss was called for OPI when the CB was behind him, my head almost exploded.

When NFL films showed that INDY game as the game of the week, that Moss call was conspicuously absent.

I am actually starting to become worried about the NFL referees. i have always defended them as the best of the 3.

Umpires have their own strike zone regardless of what the book says.
    NBA refs justfix games.

At least on the Hobbs play, there was contact (albeit initiated by the receiver) You could argue the Ref thought it was Hobbs...

The Chargers defender ran NEXT to the receiver, made NO contact... and was promptly flagged. It was surreal.

I'm just soooo glad we don't have to worry about the mystery PI calls when Manning doesn't convert on 3rd down next week.

Did he leave the pocket and then reenter it?

No! The worst part of that penalty is that the ref didn't promptly throw the flag, but it looked like he hesitated first and even though the ball was 5 yards overthrown you could see the wheels spinning in the refs head saying, "i've got to help Peyton."

I think it's time to have a PUBLIC rating system on these bastards. There are too many phantom calls and clearly one sided games being called. Some that come to mind:

    Seahawks - Steelers (Superbowl)

    Referee: Bill Leavy
    Line Judge: Mark Perlman
    Head Linesman: Mark Hittner
    Field Judge: Steve Zimmer
    Umpire: Garth DeFelice
    Side Judge: Tom Hill
    Back Judge:Bob Waggoner

    Colts -Pats (this year)

    Referee: John Perry
    Line Judge: John Hussey
    Head Linesman: Derick Bowers
    Field Judge: Gary Cavaletto
    Umpire: Tony Michalek
    Side Judge: Laird Hayes
    Back Judge: Perry Paganelli

    Chargers - Colts (today)

    Referee: Gerry Austin
    Line Judge: Carl Johnson
    Head Linesman: Ed Camp
    Field Judge: Scott Edwards
    Umpire: Ruben Fowler
    Side Judge: Alberto Riveron
    Back Judge: Phil Luckett

Colts - Steelers (2006 Playoff game)

    Referee: Peter Morelli
    Line Judge: Jerome Boger
    Head Linesman: George Hayward
    Field Judge: Jim Saracino
    Umpire: Garth DeFelice
    Side Judge: Jeff Lamberth
    Back Judge: Don Dorkowski

How can the NFL look at the refereeing in either of these 2 games and defend it at all?

But let me point out something.

In the 2005 AFCCG Colts Vs Steelers we all witnessed a disgraceful attempt to get the Colts victory by the refs. It was an embarrasment that the rest of the country was screaming for an investigation.

In the 2006 AFCCG Colts Vs Patriots with the Patriots pounding the crap out of Indy, the calls became so obsurd that you could not believe what you were seeing. Some of the calls were litterally made up. Even non-Patriot fans sympathized that there was a double standard.

In the November 2007 game Colts Vs Patiots we set a franchise record for most penalty yards in a game and somehow still won (thank you Tom Brady). But the refereeing was so atrocious that there was an ivestigation and the NFL somehow in the face of overwhelming proof defended the calls. Many sports writers actually questioned if the refs were on the level. It was disgraceful.

Today, despite the refereeing, a visiting team once again was getting called for penalties that are going to be questioned by many outside New England and San Diego. There was an obvious attempt again, to get the calls in favor of the Colts.

All these games were played in Indy and yet again, we will wake up tomorrow and hear reports that the league is reviewing the calls but will eventually find no fault.

I for one, am glad that we will be playing San Diego next sunday and not the Colts for all the above reasons.

Is this business as usual in the NFL now or is someone going to lose thier job over these horrendously called games?

    Good data, 6592.

It is very important to bear in mind that
this is NOT a wholesale phenomenon.

The league only bothers to attempt to manage the outcome of a few, select games each season.
And to do so requires the participation of only one or two officials per crew.
(Back judge, of course, is a natural.)

They think they are maximizing marketability
by keeping the Colts a viable competitor to the evil empire.

He took the snap took 1 step to the left and threw it. ONE step to the left. Im watching it right now. lol was rediculous

and if you watch the "holding" call right before 1/2 the colts guy grabbed weddle and basically dragged him down close to make it look like weddle tackled him or something

    absolutely rediculous
