Yes,Brett is going to the HOF when he retires in 30 years (sarcasm) but what is it with the media already hyping the Favre vs. Brady clashes in the AFC East?

Favre is indeed a great QB but is 38 years old and only still playing because his wife can't stand his ass around the house 24/7 and probably made him come back for another year of beatings or threatened him to have to go milk some cows in their back yard in the boondock hills of Louisiana if he doesn't get back on the field.

While Favre will allegedly make the Jets a better team, I don't see this clash of QBs as a big rivalry like the media is already creating from what I have read among the top sports websites.

To me the only clash of QBs which should create media hysteria right now in this league and until they retire unless another QB suddenly arises is Brady Vs. Manning - Peyton is the only man right now to get the respect at QB like Brady has and its not even close for third,I would not even put Brett at 3rd - Romo is a distant 3rd best at this point,Favre had his days in the late 90s.

If Brady was QB here in the middle/late 90s and they were both in their late 30s now then I can see why it would be a big deal - But IMO you are talking about a guy heading off into the sunset on a team probably not going far for the next year or two against a guy who is still relatively young and has potential to win a few more titles in NE.

This Brady vs. Favre is nothing but generated hype to create something that is really not even close - Despite his great stats last year in the weak NFC and his weak division,Favre is not even in the league of Brady or Manning so this BS should really stop - Its an insult to Brady AND Manning at this point in their careers to have another come anywhere near the QBs they are at this point.

I think Brady has as much of a respected rival competitor in the division at QB in Edwards and Pennington as much as Favre.

Well when the #1 and #2 players in terms of MVP voting from the previous year face eachother it is worthy of some hype.

While that is true - Put Favre in the AFC last year against better teams than the crappy NFC and I doubt he even would have come near MVP level - Not this year when he sees how hard it will be to keep it going.

    #51 Jersey

When you are the number 1 franchise and have the number 1 player in your team you are immediately the measuring stick for all others in the league.

I rather enjoy the notoriety as it stands.

Why not make a big deal of it. While the Patriots will most definitely be favored each time they play, you have two hall of famers going up each other twice each year (if favre plays more than one year on the jets).

I hate Favre dramas just as much as the next guy, but he still has broke boatloads of records and still has the "stuff." It'll be fun seeing him show down against the Pats this year.

Come on, how can you expect the media to not make a big thing about Favre's week two - or week one, for that matter. The only reason the week one matchup - vengeful QB and GM, versus their former employers and new QB who happens to be a future hall of famer - is not the big story is because the week two story is bigger.

The more people that are interested, the more people will not only watch the game, but read/view/listen/write about the game before, during and after it happens. Higher interest equals higher page views or ratings, equals higher ad rates and higher profits. To expect sports writers to ignore the economics of this business would be delusional.

Week one will be a media preseason game, the ex-Jet versus the new Jet. Week two, with all the angles - SB quasi-rematch, Jets-Pats rivalry (Mangini - BB, spygate, Parcells & Martin moving south, BB moving back north), do the Pats have somebody to contend with in the division, are the Jets going for broke this season, Brady versus Favre all time stats & history, BB versus Mangini history, etcetera - the media hype will be huge (NY is the biggest market in the US) and expected (the Pats did win 18 straight games last year.)

    Disable Jersey

This is a Patriots site and not a Jets site. Nonetheless, there seem to be about 40 million posts on Favre over the past few weeks. Knowing that, is it really any surprise that the media is hyping it up?

I just think its out of hand because in reality its not really Favre vs. Brady per say

Its QB of 90s decade in Favre
    vs.
QB of the new Millennium in Brady

IMO Farve is outdone by his age ...and team of course

I would still rather 40 million posts about Farve joining the AFC East than Goodell and the Spygate crap all spring with the Patriots as the topic

Its simply the lesser of two evils and besides once the season begins the focus will be on the play of the team rather than media scrutiny

    #12 Jersey

Actually I'll take 10 knee-jerk preseason reaction topics over 1 other Favre topic.

One is at least relevant to the team.

I don't know why you would NOT be excited about this. True, they are at different points in their careers, but it's two legendary quarterbacks here.

Plus, their styles are completely different, which makes this more entertaining. Brady is a pure pocket passer; you never see him force passes or throw on the run. Favre is a gunslinging risk-taker.

Brady is a metrosexual (not meant to be an insult, but true), city-boy who likes to go to clubs and take vacations at ritzy places. Favre is a corn-fed farm boy who goes hunting in the offseason.

As someone else said, the best QB of the 90s vs. the best QB of the 00s.
