I think most liberals want government and religion to be separate.

It's "conservatives" who typically support laws based on religious beliefs, so perhaps your question is better directed at them.

Depends how you define this separation. Constitution only forbids the establishment of a state-run religion and forbids the government from infringing on religious freedom. It does not preclude the government being influenced by religion (as Thomas Jefferson's later writings explained...)

Actually, I think the language just says "establishment of religion" -- which is more vague (intentionally?) than "state run."

(There's no way government can be prevented from being influenced by religion until people aren't influenced by religion, for better or worse.)

WWLD if the islamics took over the USA?

Be happy that Harry would never have a need to start a 'Man marries chicken' thread again.

Of course, Harry's island spontaneously lurching into the air, flying south and landing safely, off the coast of New Jersey(making it so Harry would take his thread ideas to the Jets' board) is about as likely to happen.

Well, here's a nice thought for all civilized societies...

Islam will never become a dominant or even a significant religion in any advanced society....Anyone who follows a religion with such strict, ancient rules and laws is wishing for society to go backwards...and that mis amigos aint a happenin'!!!

Islam is doomed & allah and mohammed (if I could draw a cartoon here, I would!) are sinking ships.....

    So REJOICE!!:rocker:

Would you rather live in a country run by Christians or run by Muslims?

I will re-word it "what would liberals do if muslims took over america"

You don't tell the muslims to seperate church and state if you try you die, that was my point, I can't understand the liberal love affair with Islam, the Muslim Religion seems to be against everything the liberal believes.

They would have a group hug and sing Kumbaya as their heads were being cut off with a dull knife.

Depends on what you mean -- are these "regular" Christians and Muslims or extremists? And I presume you mean that the country would be run under some form of religious law?

Why would we have to choose, WP?

Here's Harry's dire warning about Muslim countries:

'Don't drink alcohol, have sex or even hold hands': Foreign Office advice to keep Britons out of jail in Dubai
    By Daily Mail Reporter

The Foreign Office warns that drinking alcohol, sharing a hotel room when unmarried and even holding hands could land visitors in trouble because of strict Muslim laws.

I know fundamental Christian groups who would be perfectly happy with these same rules. They already live by them.

When my middle son got married the fundamentalist half of his new bride's family got up and left the reception when the wine was uncorked and the dancing began.

Besides, WP, what makes you think a Jew would want to live in a country run by either group? Either way they're both asking us to follow the rules of a God we don't believe in.

Because false choice is the rhetorical weapon of choice for those who get their views from the TV.

Not really vague, if you recall your American History (do they still teach that?) a number of colonies were established to escape from situations where only 1 religion was allowed by the King(s). The founders wanted to ensure that people were free to practice the religion they choose not the one they were ordered to choose by the government, they never envisioned that religious influences were to be prohibited from the public dialogue. This is a recent invention of the left, since the time of Lenin.

Look at the demographics of Europe, muslims were be the majority in another 50 years. Muslims have babies and Ethnic Europeans have abortions.

Which Christian countries enforces these strictures, OTOH which muslim countries enforce Sharia law, see the difference, one (Christian fundamentalist state) is a fantasy based on paranoid speculation, the other is happening NOW.

And the question was - which one would we rather live under - not which one is fantasy.
