What was the Offensive Gameplan...? (and other thoughts)

Not sure but it looked like many of our regular season games. Some missed opportunities in the passing game early on, some drops, a late 2nd half burst with 2 scores in the 4rth quarter but to little to late like our other losses.

People are making to much of some off throws, Jules was wide open on one or two plays. Denver had multiple receivers WIDE OPEN on MANY plays most of the game.

16 points vs a high scoring offense is not good enough ...

He did not make 1 deep or intermediate pass all day ...

Sorry ... that is a choke.

Just 1 of those passes completed and we were in the game

... at that level those just 1 play needed must be made.

If you cannot make a deep pass whose fault is it that the box is stacked?

Belichicks for providing brady with a 5 foot deep threat

I disagree, if anything that was one of his better AFC championship game. Sure he missed some deep throw down the field, but lets be honest the way Manning was moving up and down the field ,a few more completions would not have made any difference.

The Sun was in his eyes most of the first half, that didn't help matters.

Oh god THIS. SOMEONE AGREES.

People are slamming Brady because he goofed on a handful of plays - the ONLY plays that were on the table.

When Manning misfires, he has more opportunities. When Brady does, the Pats lose.

I find it insane anyone would say Brady choked.

Face it the word has been out since 2007 how to beat the Pats. Make them spread it out and then jam the small receivers at the line. Defenses know that Brady is not a threat throwing the deep ball. Also teams with larger receivers will eat up the Patriots secondary.
I am so sick and tired of seeing teams having third and long and pick it up no problem. All these loses are like replays the defense can't get off the field and the offense flounders.

So you're saying there was a plan?

It isn't Belichick who keeps bringing in all these ex-Bronco and ex-Ram players on offense....

It isn't Mathew Slater's fault, you can't blame it on the cliche execution excuse, when you call for a deep bomb to Slater who had 1 catch the entire year. That's just a terrible call.
It isn't Vereen's fault on the 2-pt play when you have an outside running RB try to run right up the gut of Denver's strength at their 2 DT's.
Can't blame it on bad execution when your defense is exhausted after multiple long Denver drives and you do nothing to help them by completely abandoning the run and then giving the ball back after a minute of possession.

Can't just blame it on bad execution.
The play-calling was just bad, especially a few glaring ones.

It was easy to see that Blount wasn't going to be the runner he was the prior 2 games. Denver wasn't going to allow the Pats to run on them to day. End of story!

Nope, but thanks for playing. 3 to 4 unsuccessful running plays and you conclude that Blount will never become a factor in the game (or that you might not get better results from a quicker and more elusive back like Ridley)? Genius.

They basically stopped running after Blount got stonewalled 3 times to start the game. Denver knew it was coming, and their D-line came to play (duh, what a surprise that they would be fired up and geared to stop the run!) Concluding that because the D-line came out of the gate ready to play means you need to immediately get away from your only offensive strength is insane. Sorry. And let's not kid ourselves: Brady had exactly ONE weapon in the passing game yesterday, and it was a 5'10 former college QB.

Blount was given 4 or 5 carries.

Brady was 2-4 for 9 yards on the first 2 drives. That doesn't mean you stop passing.

If you're having trouble running the ball, you don't just stop. You mix up who's running the ball, when, where, out of which formation, etc.

We would have had a much better chance to win if we had stuck with a more balanced attack.

Josh McFail strikes again.

You get the RBs out in space and throw them the ball. Something innovative ready if the conventional run game goes south some how. All the Broncos did was watch film on the Bengals, Jets and Panthers losses this year to know what to do.

People here can blame the defense all they want, but the D held Denver to 4 FGs and 2 TDs and kept the game from a total blowout and within reach without Talib who had to play if NE was to have a chance to win.

I've been pointing this our for years. I find the outcome of this game surprising only in that Manning played so well. McDaniels is not a big time coach. Every designed play today, including the 2 point conversion, was a flub.

Thank you.

Every now and then he comes up with a game plan that is lights out.

Is it Brady or McD?

When we had Weiss, Brady did not have the same freedom he has now to change plays. He would run what Weiss wanted him to run. Our execution then was a lot better, especially in big games. I remember when we needed first downs, we would get the most crucial ones and when we needed TDs, we would get the most crucial ones as well.

Our offense under Weiss also always scored first and then put the pressure on. We basically threw away our first 2 possessions against the Broncos.

Pretty damning statement especially since PE is one of the best posters on this entire board.

Some people here are just blind though, likely family of the coordinator or have some totally biased connection in order to continue to defend

Those of the scores' of the Pats' last 8 playoff losses. They went over 20 points only twice, and one of those times it was just barely.

I'm far from down on Brady — quite the opposite. But with all the offensive firepower this team has had over recent years, these point totals in the biggest games are disappointing.

The most upsetting part is Brady could still be the GOAT but his best years, plus his last few years, are wasted because the offense goes into a schematic dis-advantage in the playoffs after all the tendencies are scouted. Bill should self-scout his own team because he'd see it a lot more like the 90's Bills offense or early 2000's Colts offenses that were regular season stars but stoppable after their gimmick was defended in the playoffs.

These never-ending "was this loss on the O or the D?" debates get kind of old. They're like encapsulations of game threads sometimes--mostly kneejerking.

It's ok to admit that the other team was simply better--their offense obviously was.

I'm grateful for the posters who don't invoke the simplistic "theOC/offensive gameplan sucked" argument, or some on the other side, who tend to act like game thread posters and will never be happy unless the D is playing like the '85 bears and scream every time we don't get pressure on the QB or allow a 3rd and long conversion.

TBS, could the mash unit that was our Defense really have been expected to stop Manning with all his weapons at Mile High, especially after Talib went down and the strength of the D--the secondary--immediately became it's biggest liability? We were never going to win this game unless the O came out swinging, which sadly hasn't happened in many playoff games in recent memory.

Against the Denver Broncos, it was turn out the lights, the party's over, all good things must come to an end.

Thank you.

What he's good at doing is if the pregame plan was right, they will put relentless attack on maxing out blowout games even if it means being accused of running it up.
