What are these nutjobs looking for? They blew up one of the holy sites of their own faith.

So if this isn't a Shiite vs. Sunni thing, what the heck do they want (besides death and destruction)?

I'd say a fourth option: help the Arab nations to deal with them (provide intelligence support, training for police and troops, maybe some drones?)

F-ck them, Middle East Muslims just engaging in one of their favorite sports, killing each other and abusing their women, do what we do in Chicago, Ignore It, have a cook out and drink some beer.

The Arab nations are run by dictators and/or radical islamists it might not be a good idea to give them training/weapons

Just as an aside, ISIS are hard line Salafists. They have no qualms about destroying holy sites that are tombs as they don't believe in marked graves. Ibn Saud, the founder of Saudi Arabia, himself was buried in an unmarked grave. It was not uncommon during the unification of Arabia for Ibn Saud's Ikhwan to destroy tombs of prominent Muslims in around around Mecca.

As for what to do about them? In my opinion, much depends on how they proceed through Iraq and whether or not they intend to or are capable of harming American interests in the region, to include economic interests.

I'm a little surprised Iran hasn't taken a more robust posture here with ISIS. Then again, Iranian interference could really throw Iraq into a civil war with Sunnis perceiving Iranian action as an invasion.

It could well be that the only player capable of and willing to do anything about ISIS is the United States. Hooray...
