A Restricted Free Agent (RFA) is any player that has completed three accrued seasons and their contract has expired. A RFA must be tendered with an offer on or before the Restricted Free Agent Signing
Period begins. The RFA can be tendered one of four offers. They are:
    (1) Right of First Refusal and Draft Selection at player's Original Draft Round but a second-round pick if the player was a first-round pick: This is a one year player contract at a salary of $850,000 (for 2007) or 110% of the players prior year's salary (whichever is greater). If another club signs said RFA, the team tendering the offer receives one draft pick equal to the round the RFA was selected in during the draft but in the case the player was a first round pick the pick will be a second round pick.
    (2) Right of First Refusal and a second-round pick: This is a one year player contract at a salary of $1,300,000 (for 2007) or 110% of the players prior year's salary (whichever is greater). If another club signs said RFA, the team tendering the offer receives one second round draft pick.
    (3) Right of First Refusal and One First Round Draft Selection: This is a one year player contract at a salary of $1,850,000 (for 2007) or 110% of the players prior year's salary (whichever is greater). If another
club signs said RFA, the team tendering the offer receives one first round draft pick.
    (4) Right of First Refusal and One First Round Draft Selection, and One Third Round Draft Selection: This is a one year player contract at a salary of $2,350,000 (for 2007) or 110% of the players prior year's salary (whichever is greater). If another club signs said RFA, the team tendering the offer receives one first round draft pick and one third round draft selection. If no tender offer is made by the start of the Restricted Free Agent Signing Period, then the player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent.

I'm going with Right of First Refusal and One First Round Draft Selection - a salary of $1,850,000.

I'm going with the Right of First Refusal and a Second-Round Draft Selection only due to his injury history the past two seasons.

    I'll go with the $1.3.

The kid has the potential to be good if he can stay healthy. That price is not too high for a good nickle and backup.

I'm not sure what to vote....

1.3 mill seems to be a lot to pay a guy who would be pretty deep on the depth chart and has only played in 16 games in 3 seasons.

If I'm reading Miguel's chart right, at 1.3 mill, his base salary would be higher than that of Warren, Koppen, Wilfork, Mankins, Watson, Wilson, Scott, Gaffney, Caldwell, Hobbs, Kazcur....you get the drift, pretty much the rest of the team save for a few.

1.3 mill is a LOT for a guy who hasn't stayed healthy for two straight years.

Why would they possibly tender more than $1.3M ? No-one's going to give up a #2 for him and if they did it would be a great deal for us.

It's more than he's worth, IMO, but as the next lower option allows for no compensation it's probably the thing to do.

Maybe back in 2005. The salary cap game has changed quite a bit since the new TV deal...1.3 million is less than 1/80th of the salary cap.

Do you think there will be in any interest in Gay, though? IMO, I don't think there's another team in the league which would even contemplate signing Gay for 1.3 mill, just putting aside the draft pick compensation altogether. And we all know how value-obsessed the Pats are, so I highly doubt the Pats of all teams would dish out 1.3 on a guy who at best is your nickle, and in all likelihood isn't even the first backup CB. As far as I remember, he doesn't even have any real ST value.

If he's coming back to the Pats, he's coming back on their terms, at the value they deem, I don't think they'll be worried about compensation as there's no way they're getting any for Gay.

Randall Gay SUCKS! Let him walk. I see most people think he will get tendered 1.3 million. How's the kool-aid tasting?

    No Jersey Selected

I agree; that's why I voted, reluctantly, for the $1.3M; but only...Only...ONLY if he clears medically first.

I think they'll offer him the 850K, the only reason to offer him the 1.3M IMO is that the Jets might actually offer him that much but won't give up a second for him.

Randall Gay can't seem to stay on the field

after a surprisingly good rookie season, I can't recall seeing him in three consecutive games.

What he said. If anyone knows how good Gay may be its Mangini. If the guy has talent Beichick will protect him. If Mangini would give a second rounder for him, then he is very good.

Solid? Yeah he did really well against Terrell Owens who was running on screws in the superbowl. Owens had over 100 yards and schooled Gay. Gay sucks! He's injury prone and not even that god when on the field. Sorry.
