We do not really have that one player on defense that can turn the game around ot make that big play. We don't have Rodney or Law to make that big hit anymore. Mayo should be a star and may be that player in another year or two.
We need a great DL or someone who puts fear in the other teams eyes.
Teams fear Brady when they play us but nobody on defense does this. Seymore is not the player he used to be anymore.
What position or player do you see that we should look at next year?
Any Ray Lewis type players out there you like?
    thanks

Seymour's having an awesome year so I don't know what you're getting at there. We need a star in the secondary, that much is obvious, but it's a silly question to ask since we could use one anywhere on the defense.

It's simple, a DeMarcus Ware type OLB. He makes the Cowboy defense go. Without him, they can't get to the QB. I wanted the Pats to focus on this position last offseason but they didn't get the memo.

We definitely need a safety or CB in the first. My first choice would be Jenkins from OSU but he probably wont be there, so then Taylor Mays or William Moore

OLB......thomas went down and vrabel's skills are starting to erode

SS would also be a good place to start

Strong Safety - lil' Jimmy Sanders is a swing backup, at best.

CB - and more than one, too, with size & ball skills.

OLB - Vrabel & Woods are our starters - 'nuff sed.

Have you cut Thomas, Wheatley and Wilhite?

I would sleep better at night if BB would cut Wilhite.

If you are going to play the 3-4, then you absolutely MUST have a NT. Regardless of what variations you play the 3-4 from, the monster NT that can control the LOS, comman double teams and is a rock in the running game. It is paramount regardless of which 3-4 defense you run.

In the BB version of the 3-4 the next most important position are the OLB's. They have to be able to generate a pass rush and play the run and have the speed to cover.
I think that in years past, because Seymour was so dominant at one DE position and Warren or Green could generate a pass rush at the other DE position, the Pats could get away with having second tier OLB's that were more jack of all trades and master of none type players.

The third most important defensive position in the BB 3-4 defense is the field general at SS, that can command respect and communicate. BB prefers veterans in this spot.

I want to throw a name out there of someone, who as a late round draft pick, might be worth a shot depernding on what Saban says about him, Bobby Greenwood, DE alabama. A day two draft pick kind of guy that no one is talking about, but has 2 years experience in the 3-4 and has made a ton of plays this year, mostly because of the presence of Mount Cody on the inside.

    I don't disagree.

We have our NT, but could use a true backup in the middle rounds.

At OLB, the development process that is needed to go from college DE to 3-4 OLB would prevent a STUD from coming in and getting significant minutes right away. That, combined with the roster we have, I don't think they would draft an OLB prospect in the 1st round. Maybe 2nd round.

At SS there is nobody. Our biggest DB is a CB, Lewis Sanders. James Sanders is a nice player, but not the long term answer. Meriweather is a FS. In my opinion, is the most talented player in the backfield, and trying to do too much to cover up everyone elses mistakes. The most glaring need in this defense right now is a true SS. The guy that can cover a TE, or lay one out across the middle, or fill and lay the lumber in run support.
Come April, if Will Moore is on the board, I would be running to the podium.

And so would I. Sorry, MGT, but I just don't think that lil' Johnny Wilhite ia anything more than TC/PS fodder, just like Richardson. If the FO wanted a CB at the end of round 4, then it should've drafted Orlando Scandrick. BTW, did anyone else notce another whiff from Wilhite on the Pitt punt return in the 1st quarter, caught on the 6 & returned to the 36?

As for lil'Terry Wheatley, he is an over-drafted (surprise) injury-prone midget who will struggle to stay healthy his entire career.

And as for AT, he is on the wrong side of 30. He's still productive, now, but we all know that he will never see the end of his contract.

I think they need more than one stud player.

Look at the giants. they have multiple players in the front 7.

I would like to see several OLB's/DE's who can rush the passer.

We need a Justin Tuck/Osi type.

I know people will say he doesn't fit the scheme, but the last two seasons we have struggled to get pressure on the QB. last season we were front runners in nearly every game and up so much the OLB could just tee off.

we absolutely need one guy like this and two would help big time.

Do you guys remember... ASANTE SAMUEL? Its a passing league and a "lockdown" is what we need.

Which begs the question, 'what does "lockdown" and Asante Samuel have in common?'

CB/S and OLB/DE is what i think we need. we will have 3 picks in the top 50 to make up for that, and we can probably sign a decent Free Agent to temporarily fill the void

A very true statement! In my mind Samuel was a gambler.

We've got our NT unless Vince gets itch feet. I still don't think we'd be doing much wrong drafting Mount Cody anyway.

I think we'll go with a lineman in the first round, which I'm happy with, then hopefully we take Patrick Chung as Rodney's successor in round 2.
