PATS and COLTS would still be playing this weekend
I know this is far fetched. But what if at the end of the regular season, all 32 NFL teams advanced to a playoff system kind of like the NCAA Basketball tourney. They say any given Sunday and how wild would it be for a #8 seed to beat a #1 in round one (not probable). The lower seeds would keep home field advantage until the finals which would be the Super Bowl. So here is the seeding I came up with.
The #1 seeds:
IND DEN SEA NE (not a top four record but Div and defending SB champs)
The #2 seeds:
CIN CHI NYG TB
The #3 seeds:
JAX PIT CAR KC
The #4 seeds:
SD WAS MIA MIN
The #5 seeds:
DAL ATL PHL STL
The #6 seeds
BAL AZ CLE BUF
The #7 seeds:
DET OAK NYJ SF
The #8 seeds:
TEN GB NO HOU
So here is how the brackets would look
Top Bracket Round One:
NO at IND, DAL at MIN, AZ at KC, OAK at TB
SF at CIN, BAL at CAR, ATL at SD TEN at NE
Bottom Bracket Round One:
HOU at SEA, PHL at MIA, BUF at PIT, NYJ at CHI
DET at NYG, CLE at JAX, STL at WAS, GB at DEN
Assuming the lower seeds won out, it would make for some very exciting Sweet 16 games:
Top Bracket Sweet 16:
MIN at IND, KC at TB, CAR at CIN, SD at NE
Bottom Bracket Sweet 16
MIA at SEA, PIT at CHI, JAX at NYG, WAS at DEN
So based on this outcome, how do you pick them from here? Here are mine:
Top Bracket:
IND beats MIN, KC upsets TB (both advance) IND wins at home vs. KC
CAR beats CIN, NE beats SD (both advance) NE wins at home vs. CAR
Bottom Bracket:
SEA beats MIA, PIT wins at CHI (both advance) PIT upsets SEA on the road
NYG beats JAX, DEN beats WAS (both advance) DEN beats NYG
Final Four Match ups:
NE at IND (the game everyone wanted to see)
PIT at DEN (the way it worked out anyway)
Super Bowl....NE/IND winner vs. PIT/DEN winner
Interesting how the AFC's superiority prevailed.
So pick these two games and then the winner!
New England wins by a field goal over INDY
PIT beats DEN by 4
The Super Bowl:
The homer in me says PIT
My heart says NE (because I think it is psychological for the Steelers against the PATS)
