To me is the Vick saga since this is something so disgusting that no one even thought that NFL player could be doing quietly and getting away with by far the biggest story in the NFL offseason of 2007.

Are there any others to you that comes to mind as the biggest story in the NFL offseason regarding players or coaches around the league?

I can think of more like...

Parcells suddenly retiring
Cowher suddenly retiring (although there were indications beforehand)
The death of Marquise Hill
Holdouts by big names like Samuel and Briggs
Pacman Jones getting busted by Goodell for involvement in shooting
Joey Porter and Levi fighting in a Vegas casino
The Patriots going hogwild in FA
San Diego firing just about all its coaching staff,
Odell Thurman getting caught doing bad stuff twice within a few weeks
Miami who was a near certainty to draft Quinn passes on Brady Quinn for Ted Ginn Jr.
Tom Brady being a daddy

I think it had to be patchick becoming a moderator for the draft forum. I'm staggered to think someone with her stature as a football demi-goddess would join the ranks of fellows such as PATSNUTMe, T-shirtdynasty, and Pats1...come to think of it sanity isn't highly prized by the majority of our moderators. Truly, I was shocked and remain saddened to this very day. :(

Nobody ever expects a player to die in the offseason. I'm going to go with the deaths of Darrent Williams, Damien Nash and Marquise Hill.

Beyond that, I never saw Randy Moss, Stallworth, Welker and Adalius all becoming Patriots in the same season.

The rest had moderate degrees of probability, even if they seemed unlikely.

It's just too bad that those events transpired. I remember seeing a special on the Broncos and it had interviews with some players and John Lynch said it was nearly impossible to play at the team's OTAs knowing Darrent and Damien wern't there.

Are the Pats going to be wearing a sticker on the helmet in rememberance of Hill?

A good list..but I would include the playing of games in Europe, the talk of a 17th game one being international, and Vick and the dogs..even though I hate to bring it up again...

If you ignore the current Vick thing, I'd go with the shooting of Darrent Williams. It wasn't technically the offseason, but the timing and sensationalism (in a tabloid way, not in a good way) of it got national play. The other deaths, while equally tragic, were felt more by individual teams.

And MY bad for missing that you listed the Vick story first...and just looking at the list. I agree with you..in so many ways..it's the largest, creepiest and saddest. I never thought any NFL player was capable of that...it's overshadowing the league now..which is ashame as there are other stories important to the league..

Darrent Williams died in early January if I am not mistaken....That is NOT the offseason...At least in NFL terms,It was for the Broncos who missed the playoffs however.

I can't believe this story was missed... How about the sad demise of our beloved Ted Johnson. I think in a way that story is bigger and more shocking than the Vick story.

There is also the Charlie Weiss malpractice suit that is still ongoing in which Brady testified on the behalf of Weiss.
The BB rumors and speculation about his leaving and the stories about his gal pal.

I just thought of some more...

The Lions coach that was caught driving naked.
Retired NFL players and their gripes with their pensions or lack thereof.
Keyshawn Johnson at the draft talking about how he is going to "help" Dwayne Jarrett only to get cut a few days later...

Uh, ok... it was mostly out of respect, but I'll annotate that next time to point out the fact that he died in January and NOT after the pro-bowl.

Cancelling the China Bowl.

The Vick thing may end up to be the biggest blackeye the NFL has ever had. It has it all, violence, cruelty, gambling, etc. This scumbag needs to go away for a long time (he's guilty, I dont care what anyone says).

My top 5 NFL offseason stories,

1) Vick

2) Vick

3) Vick

4) M.H. passing away.

5) New England Patriots message boarder "rabthepat" being viciously torn to shreds for criticizing Tom Brady's out of wed lock baby.

The ones you mentioned in your last 2 posts are no really ones that would have gained lots of attention grabbing from the media and ones that few people outside of New England would care to read or hear about for some of your selections at least...I am sure the original posters question was pretty much on the offseasons biggest storyline and biggest media attention around the league.

I think the naked Detroit coach happened during the LAST offseason
