I am convinced that a LOT of people think that we've entered a new era where the government will take care of you. Buy your house, your gas. Maybe your weekly groceries. And you certainly wont need a job.

Vote - remember, the part in parens is so you can differentiate what you think, the vote is for what you think the voters voting for Obama think.

Why on earth did you choose ONE single topic BF? I'm not voting for him for any of the reasons on the poll. Actually, your poll discusses 4 variations of the same single reason.

I'm voting for Obama because I believe he is the best man for the job. PERIOD.

It is not the president's job to "take care" of anyone. Nor is it his/her job to give everyone a fair chance. These issues are very, very low on the totem pole for me. As a matter of fact, they don't even register.

I didn't say this is THE reason people are voting for Obama (although I think it is for many), I asked what Obama voters think. Period.

I can't believe you're voting for Obama but, of course, that's your decision. The great mystery of this election is why people think Obama will be better for the economy. Just because it's bad right now doesn't mean that Obama would be better than McCain; but that's off topic.

Between the two of these, you realize they are THE reason Obama will win right ? Eliminate them and McCain probably wins 54-46.

BF...NO president in US history has ever fixed an ailing economy. I stated many, many times that no government policy can change the direction of the economy.

So no matter which may is voted into office, the economy will go the way it's going to go. That is fact proven out by historical fact. Just look at all the "major" recessions and you will not find a single one that was corrected by gov't policy.

I can tell you right now that Obama will not attempt to take care of everyone. That's a foolish statement for you to even offer as a choice.

I do not think people have entered into an Era where government will take care of everyone, I think we have ended an era where big business and corporate elites are the only ones taken care of.

We have entered into an era where the playing field has been leveled a little and the wealth in the country will finally start to trickle down a little rather than being held hostage at the top 1%.

    The poll options are ludicrous.

I have to admit his plan for the middle class would help me.
Hey, if the government has all that cash for the bankers...

The only people who expect the government to take care of them are those who are truly down and out -- injured war vets, mentally ill, mentally retarded, etc. Many of these people know they cannot completely take care of themselves. People want opportunity, and that's what they expect from Obama.

I can state as clearly and confidently as anyone in US history that the middle class is THE most important part of the economy to "take care of". It's importance far outweighs corp. America. That is undeniable fact.

So, yes, it is key that Obama make circumstaces of this group of Americans better and less burdened.

I think we have entered into an era where a LOT of people think the government will take care of them. Of all the reasons the bailouts may have been bad, this is the biggest IMO. The "what about me" mentality.

Good luck with that - depending where you are in the middle class (lower, middle, upper), don't expect the help. It's all B.S., Obama can't take the rich and give everyone else thousands. It doesn't add up.

And as CitiGroup, Ford, Chrysler, GM and many others line up for their BILLIONS, what are they crying?

If I lived in a country where MY gov't was giving MY tax dollars to those earning over $1MM annually, I would certainly think, WTF!!???

    "WHAT ABOUT ME?"

But that is because I am a part of the most important part of the US economy....the middle class. Without us, there is no economy. without us, there are no tax dollars to fund programs for the needy. Without us, we are nothing.

Not sure what everyone else thinks as everything is polarized, hysteria and hyperbole abound. What I think is a different attitude for the way we view the world.. a more intelligent, cautious approach and more honesty in government..

Do I think things will change, if they do so it will be incrementally.. as much of what needs changing is institutionalized and that makes it more difficult.

I do not expect rapid change, hope the direction will be focused, part of a big plan and things done in a coherent and thoughful manner. There seems to be a "socialist" implication, do not believe that this is a viable outcome.

BTW did not vote in the poll, as not sure my thoughts fit.

Best post yet Darryl! I believe you are referring to a new vision for America. One that incorporates the historical values that have made us great with the realities of a new world order.

And althought I agree the changes will be minimal, all we need a little change, as long as it is in the right direction. God knows, Bush has brought this country down several notches in his eight year reign.
