So did Obama, who you are talking about and mentioning by name here, make this "my people" comment or was it Holder, who you have not talked about or mentioned by name, who made the comment?

    HOLDER SAID IT
I think does a great disservice to people who put their lives on the line for my people," said Holder, who is black.
    http://www.politico.com/blogs/joshg...ack_Panther_case_focus_demeans_my_people.html

If I said to Holder "Your People" every liberal loon do-gooder in the country would be screaming "Racism"

They won't let the N Word fade away now this kind of racist sh!t.

It's about time the Democrat Media and the Loons of America started jumping on these minority's and their racism.

Why, because you and other pubbies don't like him?

Would love to hear your analysis of how he's "more divisive" than his predecessor and how that reflects on him as opposed to his detractors.

harry's still upset that he can't use the n word and blacks sometimes can...

    What was racist here, harry?

You really are clueless. You have no idea what racism is.

    ----------

btw, re. Holder saying "my people" -- Good to see some folks here are upset by him saying something that, were it said by any white person regarding their respective ethnic group, wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

White folk just can't catch a break

You mean like over in the Vick thread where PR declared that any slur aimed at a Bostonian was a slur at all Pats Fans everywhere because we all spring from a common source?

C'mon really? If John Ashcroft sat up there and said "my people" in reference to whites, you don't think anyone would raise an eyebrow? I beg to differ, especially in a case that was directly related to race, where the culprits were the same ethnicity of the "my people" the AG would have been referring to. If the clock were ticked back to Ashcrofts tenure, and the colors in the incident reversed, any mention by a white AG of "my people" would have raised an eyebrow or two.

I broke it down so even someone stupid could understand it in "that" thread detail by detail. and Wistah confirmed it was insulting to any New Englander. After all, you may not have a clue, but this board is ALL ABOUT NEW ENGLANDERS lady.

    Good day!:D

Any politician can use the term "my people" when referring to their voting constituency. But they can NOT use it to refer to an ethnic or religious group like Holder did.

If he meant "African-Americans" (and he did) by "my people", then his comment was ignorant to the core. Just like when George Wallace used to "Our people"....same exact thing.

I don't recall receiving the established fee to use my "name" in your post.

But you're off a bit. I think I took offense at that thread's comment in general because it was stupid. It allowed only two options: PETA fanatic or racist.

When i say "my people" I'm usually referring to middle-class workers from New England. or my immediate family. I used to think i was Irish, but over the years I've learned that I identify strongest with the group New Englander

Thanks for straightening me out Wistah. You know, I never thought about how proud I am to be a "New Englander" until I just read your post. Maybe cuz I'm a hard-nosed & stubborn guy from MA....but I really like the sound of the words "New Englander"

So you would consider New Englanders to be "your people" more or less, correct? And proudly and rightfully so, I assume.

I've truly never thought about who "my people" are or would be...nor do I feel a need to have a group I identify with as "my people". It sounds tribal to me.

But I like New Englanders...that much I'm sure.

maybe cuz we're "wicked smaht"...I dunno

yeah, I definitely agree with that -- but I think there's a difference on race b/t whites and blacks. When I think about any comments by blacks re. ancestry, etc., I think of it versus ethnicity for whites.

If an Irish or Italian pol made a reference to "my people," I don't think most people would have an issue with it.

    irrelevant to my post

(though it does show your continuing dismay over what is or isn't OK for you to say to blacks. Why is that?)

Regardless of whether you're offended by it, how was his comment "ignorant"?

I disagree with you re. ethnic or religious groups. I'd have no problem with a Jewish pol referring to the atrocities committed by the Nazis against his "peope" -- would you really find that offensive (or, I guess, ignorant)? I'd have no problem with an Irish politician referring to the discrimination her "people" faced when they first started arriving in the US.

The civil rights movement did much in teaching us that we are all "The Same" Holder said "My People" are HIS PEOPLE different than the rest of us, it seems he thinks so.

People like Holder and people in Show Biz seem to be hell bent on keeping the days of The Old South alive, Eddie Murphy loved the N Word it made a Super Star out of him, they just won't let it go away, the Rap Crap Composers write it into their music just like Stephen Foster did only worse.

    So Be It.
