What are your opinions on Kyle Arrington?

Kyle is what he is...a JAG

Nothing more,nothing less

If Butler wasn't so pathetic as a starter and there was a little more depth,Kyle wouldn't be starting and probably not on most teams in the NFL

With that being said,he is improving to be a player you can use for depth and a substitute for a starter on IR but reality says he is a STs asset and a lower depth CB on a team that is normally primarily healthy in the secondary

No question there is a role on this team for Arrington, but starter? I hope not. I think we've seen this kid's ceiling. He's a solid depth corner and an improvement over the likes of Hobbs or Wilhite.

McCourty and Bodden are going to make a killer starting CB combo. I'd love to see a starting caliber FA brought in. With Warren returning and a draft rich in ends/pass rushers, this defense could be on the doorstep of the elite. A Richard Marshall type CB would put the secondary over the top.

Arrington has been huge for the NE Patriots this season, though he isn't dominating as a cover corner. I've kept an eye on him over the last couple months and he is always there to make the sure tackle. He is down right aggressive in his tackling and run support.

If I thought the Patriots needed a free safety, I would suggest that he make the switch. Meanwhile, he would be great backing up Bodden and McCourty. I wish this thread was talking about Bulter, but it seems he has a lot of work to do.

Don't discuss it, then.

I don't intend to. You made blatantly erroneous points and continue to do so. It's comical, but really not worth continuing.

Have a nice day.

Great piece today from NESN's Jeff Howe on Arrington:

Kyle Arrington's Rapid Development Surprised Many, But Young Cornerback Isn't Taking Starting Job for Granted - New England Patriots - NESN.com

Arrington looked back upon the Patriots’ Week 8 victory against the Vikings as something of a turning point. The game plan had Arrington almost exclusively responsible for manning up Randy Moss, and Arrington engaged Moss in a knock-down type of street fight at the line of scrimmage on many plays.

The former Patriots receiver, who spent a number of days playing pickup basketball with Arrington, was a complete non-factor, and that night served as a significant rallying point for the Patriots as a whole. It also doubled as one of those "Hey, I could be good at this" revelations for Arrington.

"It was definitely a confidence-builder, that game in particular," the third-year cornerback said. "I felt I could possibly turn the corner, as not just as a special teamer who is in a replacement role, but I could be a pretty good corner. By no means do I think I'm the greatest or great right now, but I'm still working on it and trying to get better. Every day is a new opportunity to work on techniques, mental toughness. Every day is an opportunity to get better in some area."

Nice comeback.

Saying that Arrington would not have beaten out Butler and Willhite as a slot corner or a dime DB is comical. If neither one of those two saw time in the nickel or dime or at CB you actually might make sense.

If not for Bodden's injury, Arrington wouldn't be seeing the field except on special teams.

I don't know why but I just have a feeling that Bodden won't be on the team next season.

If you ever happen to find yourself in Las Vegas with some free time, go see the sights and stay away from the casinos if you're having those same feelings.

Assuming he stays healthy, Bodden is here for a few seasons.

There is very good reason Bodden will be in NE next year. Guaranteed money.

Either Johnathan Joseph or Richard Marshall... But, I suspect both will draw interest from other teams that will place them out of New England's price range.

Or, perhaps, Eric Wright can be an option after coming off a down season and being placed on injured reserve. His stock might be low entering the off-season.

Arrington is solid cover corner who hits hard and can support the run. He has good speed and seems to be able to stay with anyone and does not give up a lot of big plays. He is quite a find by BB and the staff. He gave up a couple of plays against Buffalo but he had tight coverage and the throws had to be perfect.

Didn't he get replaced by Butler because of performance? Butler on the otherhand, really surprised me, but they are both unbelievably inconsistent and wouldn't be a starting corner on anyteam not hit by injuries as hard as us.

Almost all CB's would fall under your definition of "unbelievably inconsistant" because these days almost all of them give up a play now or then. It is part of the game; the recievers are bigger / faster and the routes are more precise. However Arrington is a lot better than most.

A nice shot of him from the Bill's game.

I guess it's all subjective, but I would not at all label Arrington inconsistent. If anything, he's been one of the more consistent defenders. If the idea of consistency is "shutdown," then I can see your disappointment. The man has filled in admirably, IMO. He's not spectacular and many say he lacks a lot athletically, but I like what he's been able to do, especially when compared to the far more athletically gifted Butler.

Good to see Butler turn in a good game in Buffalo. Always good to have multiple good players at a position. Arrington would be a good corner covering the slot receivers in case Butler starts with McCourty.

I think he's a solid corner whose upside is still to be found, and who does what's most important in a BB defense: fulfill his assignments and tackle. He's the opposite of Samuel.

Will he be a starting corner in the NFL for the next few years? Or a fill in? Only time will tell.

Some games he gets tossed off recievers like a bucking bull, other games he does his job, and every once in awhile he shines with the pick 6. That's not consistent. He's done an OK job, but he's one of the weak links in a secondary with an extremely bright future.

Again, it's all subjective. Maybe you've focused on him more than I have and are entitled to your opinion. I feel I have seen different. He's almost always in position and almost never misses the tackle. I've surely seen many a corner get tossed by receivers in bump-and-run coverage, so as another poster said, I guess you can apply that label to a majority of NFL corners.

This thread makes kyle seem like deltha oneil..

Butler is smaller and smaller build then Kyle a reason kyle matchsup better on the outside then butler.also butler once beat a few times just blows and losses his confidence .He does not fight back like kyle does.I want my CB to fight even if they get beat a few times which will happen.

kyle and devin on the outside bring a physical strong presence against the run a reason you do not see alot of screens and runs outside going for major gain.this guys are providing some serious run support. The weakness in a 3-4 is your front 7 is bigger and hence the outside runs and screens get very effective. a reason the steelers struggle in against our offence as there lateral speed of the OLB/DE is not good.

Going forward even if boden takes his spot i will have kyle back both bodden and devin and rotate if they need a blow or injury.

Fans are impressed that butler got some play time as soon we put whillite on IR.!!! No one mentions that the issues we have because we play chung or one of our safeties over the Slot guy . Whillite matchup really well...

so next year i see butler and whillite holding this down and butler maybe backing up whillite

satz
