Beats me. But make no mistake, it's now Obama's war. It's amazing how the media is complicit in not reporting the horrors of it. So different from when a Republican is in office.

That's why Democrats are more prone to make wars. Kennedy took Eisenhower's special forces in Vietnam and turned it into something else. LBJ escalated it far beyond what a Republican would have done.

    The Korean War--Truman.

The War to end all wars? Didn't Woodrow Wilson promise to keep us out of it six months before during his election?

I never understood Obama's desire to focus our attention there, when it was Iraq that al Qaeda coveted.

For those who can't differentiate a third world mud hut country where the average women has eight children from a country with electricity and dams and mechanized armor, well, you need to read Charles Krauthammer more.
There are soldiers dying in Afghanistan. I'm just not sure for what.

    Ugh.

Do you (and Krauthammer) actually believe the U.S. is at war with "Afghanistan"?????

I'm sure you believe in the Health Reform "Death Panels" also, and that Obama is a Muslim, non-citizen.

Who cares if Iraq had electricity and mechanized armor? Who cares if Afghanistan doesn't?

Were the Patriots playing the New orleans Saints when they were in Super Bowl 36 in the Superdome????? Honestly, research and learn.

What are we doing ... we are still pursuing the pipeline from the Caspian. the project that was first laid out and planned in 1999.

TAPI (Trans-Atlantic Pipeline) vs IPI IIran-Pakistan-India pipeline) ... shmessy says "Obama is disengaging from Iraq and going after Al Qaeda and the Taliban". No shmessy - Obama is going after the pipeline, Al Qaeda and the Taliban are just in the way. No different than Bush.

Yeah, Obama is all about oil. :D :D :D

(Which is why he is disengaging from Iraq, which has no oil! :D :D :D )

C'mon, Icy, you're one of the smarter ones. Get yer head in the game, dude.

So when's the pullout date? There is none. He has broken another major campaign promise. He's doing exactly what W. would have: keep 100,000 there for the foreseeable future.

I wish he'd pull them all out in six months' time.

shmessy ... you need to do your homework. I've laid this all out in the forum since 2003. It's all about that pipeline. Also - he hasn't removed anyone from Iraq, they've just been relocated which keeps us in the vicinity of the pipeline and the Caspian. This is all about the Caspian Sea and always has been. I'm not going to argue with you on it because the experts have already done that over and over again. If you research it you will see. Bush was the willing partner to this masterplan and Obama isn't all that different himself. Do you really think our President decides these things?

    BINGO!

    We Got BINGO!

Look at the map. This was planned even earlier. Even National Geographic ran a piece on the Caspian Basin. Rand has published many studies on it. The US does not want Russia to control the whole pot.

What are we doing there? It's simple...

That is, obviously, a map of Iran. Now take a look at the nearest country to the east and the nearest country to the west. This is no coincidence. I fully believe that if Bush had another 4-8 years to be President, we would have had troops either amassed on both borders or in Iran before his term was up. But, for now, that's just a conspiracy theory.

We need to get out. But then, those of us paying attention were saying that 5 years ago.

The only thing more amusing about the left's relative silence is the right's sudden outrage regarding Afghanistan.

bin Laden is dead, and we're broke. It's time to pull out of both countries, and do whatever is necessary to resuscitate our dying monetary system.

There is no oil in the Caspian Basin. Only natural gas, and not enough to justify a 200 billion dollar pipeline to the shore.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we're getting out anytime soon. On top of that, I can't even remember the last time bin Laden even addressed the world.

They are trying to get to the Opium, control it and shut off the funding of Al Queda. Kill two birds with one stone, clamp down on drugs and slow down terrorists cash cow. However, all that being said, I don't want to be there anymore. I am a big proponent of history, ask the Russians about Afghanistan.

They will not stop the opium because that's all there is. We don't want every man in the mountains to be out of work, sober AND hating America, do we? This has nothing to do with clamping down the heroin trade and we can't do it anyway.

It's an impossible place to control. Sometimes it doesn't even seem like it's on Earth.

You honestly believe that was UBL? Seriously?

Did you also believe the videos from 2003-2005, even though they look nothing like him and the translation was off?

Voice experts have stated it is his voice.

However, it doesn't matter if it's him or not.

As long as world public opinion believes it is all that counts.

We need his head on a skewer.

Honestly, I don't agree with the 100,000 troop option. We should have used a few billion dollars of special ops, drones and bakshish back in October 2001 to do the job and save our country alot of unnecessary grief.

John Blubber Murtha & John Fonda Kerry had quite a bit to say about our troops "raping' and "terrorizing in the night" they also screamed 'bring the troops home' where are these two phony scum now.

    Dear Stupid Obama,
For God sake End The Wars
    bring the troops home.

    George Will:
And it's one of the few countries with a higher birth rate than Afghanistan, where the women are chattel property of their husbands.

Harry Boy is right. Where are the peaceniks when they're needed?

This is one war that's truly a waste. We're only going to lose. That's all Afghanistan does. Beat superpowers. That's all they know how to do.
