I don't think I've ever hear BB endorse ANYONE with this much emotion and enthusiam. Not even Charlie and Romeo. I'm happy because Dante's been with the team for a LONG time and should get inducted into the Pats Hall of Fame some day.

Q: When you have a guy like John Hannah out at practice, do you pick his brain a little bit?

BB: Yes, I've talked to John in the past. I didn't talk to him today, but I've talked to him in the past.

Q: When he's watching your guys out there, will you ever nudge him and give him a little 'What do you think?'

BB: Yes. It depends on the way the conversation goes. Yes, I wouldn't rule that out. At the same time, I think that Dante [Scarnecchia]...I don't think there's a better offensive line coach than Dante. I haven't worked with one. I don't think there's a better one in the league. So to be honest with you, there isn't anybody's opinion that would carry more weight than Dante's on something like that, with no disrespect to anybody, but that's what he does. He's been doing it a long time and he's great at it. There isn't anybody's opinion that I value more than Dante's.

I don't know about that. I don't think Doogie Howser O.C. has been that bad and this year will be the litmus test.

I also think that Dante prefers to immerse himself in hands on coaching rather than offensive strategy.

Bill seems to think what Dante is is a great OL coach. If he thought he was an OC he'd probably be one. Since he gave that job to "Skipper" as you call him, he must think Josh is the better man for that job.

It has been said that no one works harder than Dante, he gets to work about 4 or 5 in the AM, puts in long hours, and have never heard anyone speak against him. He is also extremely loyal to this organization having been here 23 years. Hannah was the greatest o lineman, but that does not always translate into coaching ability.

Dante is also the Assistant Head Coach and runs the team in BB's rare absences, so even though he's not OC he's more than just a position coach.

Dante is indeed everything that everyone says that he is......he defines the word "class".

NIce to hear BB speak so glowingly of the man.

Given all of the talk around here about number retirement, hall(s) of fame, etc, does anyone else thing Dante is a sure fire Pats' Hall of Famer?

Dante doesn't want to be an OC.

No, that would be a big mistake. Scarnecchia is too valuable as an O line coach to make him the OC, plus the fact that there is no reason to think he would do well calling plays.

You've got to love how having Scarnecchia allows us to keep drafting linemen in the late rounds and developing them into quality players year after year. The way BB has the best people around him is a quality that he doesn't get enough credit for.

    Absolutely!

True, Dante has chosen to be a career coach, like BB's father and stay out of the head coaching co-ordinator limelight.

I'm sure part of the reason he's stayed over various administrations is he's made it clear he wasn't after the firing line type jobs.

Dante has turned down the O coordinator offer many times. He is happy as the o-line coach and wants to stay one. That is the reason he has remained the o-line coach. There is nothing more to it. He doesn't want the job.

If there's anybody who can respect a career assistant coach, it's BB.

I am of course referring to Halberstam's book "Education of a Coach".
