Werder: Resentment towards Gronk in Pats Lockerroom

you have to threaten IR. Tell Gronk, look we feel you are healthy enough to play so play or we'll just IR you.

Easier said than done.... The only party to lose from IRing him, is the team, not Gronk.

He'll still be paid, but his absence on the field, will be felt loud and clear. We stand no chance in the playoffs against top dog teams like the Broncos with at least having Gronk out there.

Several things:
  • The assertion that the Pats' medical staff screwed up with Gronk last year is opinion and not hard fact. There is no hard evidence that they made any mistakes and Gronk could have been just a victim of bad luck. Both on the second break and the infection. The medical staff may have screwed up, but they might have done everything right and the same thing that 31 other teams would have done and Gronk just had some of the worst luck he could possibly have. I still feel the media is just piling on this staff and Dr. Gill already was a lightning rod in this town.
  • Gronk is benefitting from the media painting the Patriots' medical staff as evil and incompetent. If they weren't the bad guys in all this, Gronk would be getting killed in this town right now.
  • Of course there are players in the locker room who resent Gronk right now. I doubt it is the entire locker room, but there are at least some players. Many players have sucked it up and played with injuries that could have threatened their career if they re-injured it. After six weeks of practicing, many of these players are wondering why Gronk can't go either. I'm sure Brady in 2009 probably should have gone on the PUP from his own personal best interest standpoint, but he played from day one and probably before he was actually ready. Amendola probably shouldn't have played last week, but he did.
  • I gotta wonder what Dr. James Andrew's priorities are in advising Gronk. He is not a forearm or bone expert. He is a friend and frequent advisor of Drew Rosenhaus. Is he looking out for Gronk's overall best interest or only looking at his long term payday for Gronk and Rosenhaus?
  • Where is Dr. Jesse Jupiter and what is his opinion? Dr. Jupiter was Gronk's hand chosen surgeon to do the surgery after the infection and has no association with the Pats. Why is Dr. Andrews and not Dr. Jupiter advising Gronk about the forearm at this point? Has Dr. Jupiter cleared Gronk to play and is his opinion different than Dr. Andrews?

As a pats fan, I just want to win. But if I was in Gronk's shoes, my course of action would be not to jeopardize my career no matter what. He still wouldn't be playing if he had been placed on pup at this time so just leave the guy alone.

All everyone is doing is just adding unnecessary stress because Gronk holds all of the power. He is too valuable to cut or place on ir. After the multiple treatments to the arm, I'm guessing Gronk has learned that patience is a virtue.
Maybe he should bring some of that virtuous patience with to next bar dance

Buried in this story it says:

Gronkowski also has not been cleared by Dr. Jesse Jupiter, who performed the latest forearm surgery, sources told Schefter and Werder.

Rob Gronkowski not expected to play Sunday for New England Patriots, according to sources - ESPN Boston

Problem is that he's missed a ton of time already. If he gets IRed, it hurts his value. Sure, he's got a ton of talent, but he's getting a reputation for being a huge injury risk. I'm not saying that he's got a true rift with the Pats, but if that's true, that won't help him either. Not too many players leave New England on less than great terms and go on to have a lot of success in the NFL.

^^^^^^ding ding ding ding....we HAVE a winner!!!!!!!

See what I'm confused about is why Gronk brought in Dr. Andrews for his arm when Andrews is a orthopedic surgeon. The closest thing he does that is related to arms is Tommy John surgery. I know that all doctors have knowledge on the entire body, but if Gronk is that worried about his arm then why not ask a specialist? It would be like if I was worried about injuring my shoulder after surgery so I asked a cardiovascular surgeon to clear me before I went back to my sport. Sure he could help, but why not go to the guy who has a better understanding of the situation?

Not sure what you mean...

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics (also spelled orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedics) is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Seems this would be the specialist? :confused2:

While the gist of this may be true, the sensationalism of the content is hard to believe for me.
With the Patriots entering Sunday's game against the high-scoring Saints off a defeat to the Bengals in which New England scored the fewest points of the Tom Brady Era, teammates have begun to express their frustration directly to Gronkowski. Sources say the Patriots locker room has become increasingly uncomfortable for the tight end.
Which teammate ? brady ? mankins ? Cant believe the rooks are asking him.
Lot of stuff being written as concrete behind sources. This ESPN stirring **it up because this seems like a hot story for them.

Ok, I was wrong there. I guess the fact that they have put Dr. Andrews in the forefront of the story, he is getting buried by the media.

There is no denying Andrews enjoys the spotlight.

You've nailed it!

Its quite plausible that players and coaches are frustrated given the amount of time he's been out there and we did hear Brady say that 'Gronk looks like Gronk' so it begs the question from the players, how close are you big fella? And I suspect they have as much of an idea as we do.
One other potential concern is how the preparation and reps are impacted. How many reps is he getting with the 1's or in specific game plan packages? Its an issue since they haven't involved the TE in their games so if Gronk isn't there, the TE centric package gets shelved and prep time is too valuable for this.
It really puts them in a tough spot when devising their gameplan for the week.
I'll be curious to see if they bring a few TE's for tryouts this week. If so, I'll prepare for Gronk to be IR'd.

I would think that the opposite is true; the players must have been PO'd that the team put him out on the field last year when he was clearly not ready to play. But that was last year; who kowns about this year.

The Gronk situation is the Patriots fault (as is the WR situation) so I don't see why the players would be annoyed with Gronk.

Gronk should do do what's best for himself. He breaks his arm again, good bye career.

GET WELL GRONK!!!

How is Gronk falling awkwardly and breaking a different part of his arm the teams fault?

Erm...because they SEE he's ready every single day in practice, the guy is quitting on the team by refusing to play when everyone but his guys say he's ready.

He's acting childish and selfishly by holding out and is not being a team player.

Huge mistake signing him to that extension. They could have cut him before the year started and been out nothing. Noe they almost can't cut him. I guess they could cut him after this year and sign him to a minimal salary contract with incentives. At that point he probably retires.

Huge lesson for belichick. Don't sign players to extensions after two years. Hernandez and gronkowski total disaster.

Another lesson is not to reach for safeties in the second round but that's a different thread I guess.

You mean everyone but the guy, the surgeon who performed the procedure, and an independent world renowned orthopedist brought in to consult?

you dont think if you were a player playing through ailments seeing a team-mate look great in practice as if nothing is wrong, and then not being on the field would make you angry??

its like being on any job where you feel like you are pulling more weight than some other guy, you tend to resent that person

'Im enjoying the obvious Trolls here cackling with glee! Finally for the first time since 2001 they sense the Franchise is on the back end and are looking for ways to TROLL!! Good on you, I'm sure your own team sucks must suck to be you!

As far as Gronk, and I have been a fan since 1970...I would sit out like has been UNTIL the DR that did the surgery clears him. Sure a lot of players play hurt and risk and endure more injuries to the point they ruin their career. HE HAS ALREADY DONE THIS. Why in the world should he continue to do this? For our pleasure?

He is a VERY YOUNG GUY and could easily end his entire career. Until his DR clears him he should not play. When he does clear him he should play.

Next story.
