Okay, I know stats are for losers but what are the chances Welker ties the record for consecutive 100 catch seasons? 52 catches right now with 7 games to go. 7 catches a game gets him there. He needs one of those 12 catch games to push his stats up.

Personal stats are of little importance unless they result in wins. Watching the last couple games, I am starting to wonder if Welker is being used as a decoy on a few snaps. He has no business running deep routes against larger, more physical corners, yet on a couple occasions he his being sent deep (see the Tate reception against the Vikings when Brady didn't go to Welker early).

I don't think it'll happen, but it would be pretty spiffy. Welker's a pretty special player, and it's a shame that the dolts around think his success is the product of Randy Moss. The guy was a Patriot-killer in Miami.

Forget who said it but some analyst on NFLN said "The patriots aren't playing fantasy football anymore". I would love to see welker get 100+, and earlier on I thought he would, but 7 a game is going to be tough, Brady seems to really be embracing the "favorite target is the open one" philosiphy again instead of favoring Welker on every pass.

So much potential with the 2 tight ends is hurting Welkers numbers. However, vs the Colts, and against the Jets in a few weeks I think will be huge games for welker, Tate starting to make more plays recently is going to give welker more of a cushion then he's had since Moss left.

I'll say it's a good chance he'll go over 100 again. As he gets more and more comfortable with his knee and the offense gets used to each other more and more, Welker will get his catches.

I don't know, but to me he looks better each week, getting some key 1st downs and going a little deeper as well. So I think we're already seeing a better Wes Welker in the second half.

How that translates to number of catches I don't know. Reaching 100 sounds plausible, but the main thing with him is moving the chains. What he's doing this year is incredible I think.

Welker's quickness is still impaired, which is more of an issue than Moss being gone IMO. Hopefully after an offseason of rest and directed therapy and conditioning he'll be 100% next year.

I don't understand this. He "killed" the Patriots once in 4 games he played against us. The last time he played against us he got 1 catch for -1 yard.

Would love to see it, but more important that the W's keep coming. I think the offense has been most successful when the ball is distributed to multiple players as it was in Pgh. Sometimes Welker will have 7-8 catches but sometimes he'll get 3. I think Branch will figure more prominently moving ahead, and there is value in not knowing where the ball is going. As long as the passing game is working and they are putting up points and winning, I'm good.

BB is on record having said that the Pats couldn't cover the guy when he was in Miami. Not sure if that meets the definition of Patriots killer or not, but it's a distinction I'm not interested in arguing either for or against. The fact is that BB traded for Welker precisely because he was so good in games against the Patriots regardless of whether or not it showed up in the box score.

Doesn't mean much with the QBs and oline they were playing with at the time. Welker could have been beating us all day on routes and not showed up on the stat sheet. He was also a pretty good return man if i remember correctly.

I think he falls a little short of 100 but who cares honestly. I think we would have all been thrilled by the idea of 80-90 catches when he went down last year. And that doesn't factor in losing a partner in crime in Moss.

But lets not forget that he caught like 120 last year in 14 games so if he is starting to feel more right, as the steelers game could indicate, then maybe an 8 catch average the rest of the way is not to crazy.

Either way Welker is the F'ing man.

i dont really post much at all, but right now I think any amount of catches he has this year is a great number considering we werent even sure hed play a full season, if any of the season. this guy is incredible coming back from a significant injury and missing no time at all.

I like seeing the offense spread the wealth as opposed to watching Brady try to force it to Welker 7+ times a game to tie a record that no one really cares about.

I prefer he gives it to the open guy than spread the wealth. :D

This is the game Belichick was referring to:

    Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots - October 8th, 2006 | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Welker had 9 catches for 77 yards in the first game of the 2006 season, when we won in Foxborough 20-10. We shut down Welker in the Miami game later that year but lost 21-0 ;)

When are we going to resign this guy? He is sooo valuable in this offense. Maybe they aren't letting him break records for contract negotiations. haha jk

    Sign him now!!

Considering it initially looked like he'd be out for a big chunk of this season, I find it amazing we're even discussing the possibility of another 100-catch season. I don't care if he does it or not, and I doubt he does either.

So long as we continue to win games, that's the most important thing. And I'd get pissed if Brady started forcing the ball to him to try and help him achieve that "goal" at the expense of the bigger team goals.

If you guys think Brady's ever knowingly forced the ball to a guy in order to break some record you are insane. Do you really think that goes through his mind at all in the 3 seconds he has to get rid of the football? Let's get real.

He "forced" the ball to Welker and Moss in 09 because his other options sucked, and looking for those two, even when well covered, was almost certainly the better option on any given play. He trusted them far more than he trusted the other receivers, so he had the tendency to try to get them the ball. His wasn't catering to egos or trying to break records.
