How do you think the PA feels about this kind of comment? Here's one of the top receivers in the league the last four years, who's been underpaid during that time, essentially saying he's not going to try to squeeze every penny. From precedent, these things haven't been favored amongst the union folk, no?

Indeed they haven't, but that quote kinda gives the impression that Welker doesn't care if he pisses off some union folks. He has his priorities, and if they don't align with the union's, then so be it.

    He's a class act.

And his trash talking skillz are way underrated imo.

    Disable Jersey

Easy for him to say at 5'9" and 190 LBS, but what about guys like Wilfork? The lifetime grocery bills make me shudder.

They were never happy with Bruschi either, as long as these guys have all the money they need why should they care, not every NFL player spends millions on bling, blow and hookers.

On a serious note, I would bet good money that Wilfork is substantially shortening his lifespan to play football. He may stay healthy when he is done playing, but how much money is 10 years of your life worth?

I don't mean to diminish people that do life-threatening work on a daily basis for 'regular guy' pay. I'm just saying that if I was in a line of work that shortened my expected lifespan, I would be as absolutely greedy as possible. If I'm gonna burn quick I may as well burn bright.

I think you should get what the market will bear regardless.

Welker said last week he's already been on the other side of 14-2. He knows that winning goes a long way towards making him happy. It also elevates his profile to the extent he gets endorsement deals and can do a lot of philanthropic works. Not to mention here he gets to hang with Tommy (elevating his lifestyle) and if he needs a rehab buddy Tommy is front and center, etc. Unless they don't want him, and I doubt that because he's the kind of all in player Pioli always said epitomized the Patriot Way (they have to care just a little bit more about winning here than maxing their market) and he's one of those instinctive football players BB adores (the one's who make the most of their talent and give you 110% effort consistently), Welker isn't going anywhere.

There's Mr. Classy running around looking like a twat at the Jets and then there's actual class as demonstrated by Wes Welker.

He is at high risk for developing diabetes, it is a hereditary disease for him. His plan upon retirement is to lose as many pounds as he can.

    Oklahoma boy Welker!

Gotta love his attitude and style. Guy plays his guts out, and knows that he is fortunate. The rest of the players in the league should take notice. THESE are the kind of players we love.

"I've made more money than I ever imagined"

"and now I want to make more"...

I'm sure given his positioning and value to us, they'll make a deal, but please don't take one quote and get all broken hearted the first time he tries to bargain, which is his right.
