Dale Arnold is reporting a story (and I missed the article he was reading from) that says Weis was asked by the Pats if he wanted to sit in the coaches box for this game. He declined (and they said since he works in Indiana it was obvious he would). They then went on to talk about how he has done it before since leaving.

NEM, did we just dodge a bullet? Who's worse, McDaniels or Weiss?

Your subejct says "he was asked to", your post says "he was asked if he wanted to" . . . not the same thing.

Wouldn't you have to ask if he wanted to since he's not a member of the team and can't be "asked to"

And I'm no English major but I think if he was going to be in the box it would be to help.

    BY MITCH SHERMAN

    WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

If Nebraska didn't already know it would have a recruiting fight for Trevor Robinson, official notice has been served.

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis caused quite a stir on Tuesday in the halls of Elkhorn High School during a stop to check on Robinson, who was offered a scholarship by the Irish last September on the first day juniors were eligible to receive them.

"It was kind of a circus," Elkhorn football coach Mark Wortman said. "The kids thought it was great. There were autographs signed. They were taking pictures with their phones."

Robinson ranks as a top target for the class of 2008, with offers from Notre Dame, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Boston College. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound offensive lineman earned first-team All-Nebraska honors last fall as a junior.

Though NCAA rules prohibited Weis from talking with Robinson on the visit, the coach spent time visiting with Wortman and Elkhorn Principal Bary Habrock.

"Very nice guy," Wortman said. "He was real talkative, and I think he gets that (reaction) wherever he goes. People know him."

Weis allowed the Elkhorn students to view one of his three Super Bowl rings won as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.

Wortman even chatted with Weis about the NFL playoffs, in particular the Patriots' AFC title game on Sunday at Indianapolis. Weis told the Elkhorn coach that he was invited by New England to offer his help from the press box.

Wortman said Weis declined, mindful of his current job and Notre Dame's proximity in South Bend, Ind., to many fans of the Colts.
The visit made a "big impression" on Robinson, Wortman said.

"He flew here just for this reason," Wortman said. "He said he wants Trevor to know that he's special, that he's a good fit for Notre Dame."

Well the seeminly pickiness of my point is important because if he was asked to it would make people think that McDaniels is incapable of calling the game. Much more likely he was asked if he wanted to as a favor to him to enjoy being in the thick of the action, no for an actual role himself.

Maybe Charlie could borrow Payton's black wig and mustache and come in disguise!

I do wonder how much Belichick talks to outside coaches. For example, Saban faced Indy Week 17. Charlie's just off recruiting. Our staff is totally capable but I always wonder if Belichick gives those guys a call.

One thing that has really benefited BB (in my opinion) is to not think that he is a "know it all". He has been known to call around to friends and ask their opinion and help....just another reason why he does so well!

That can't be right. If BB doesn't act like he "knows it all" and solicits others opinions, how can he be arrogant?

Yeah, no doubt he talks to a lot of people and credits them. But I do wonder if he talks to outside coaches about a specific gameplan. Would he chat with Saban on Monday night about something he's thinking of for this week (or Weis) or are those just offseason brainstorming sessions.

First, even if he was asked if he wanted to sit with the coaches that does not infer, in any way, a lack of confidence in McDaniels.

Second, you're on record as saying that Charlie is a creative gameplanner and a sucky play caller.

If you were right about McDaniels he wouldn't have been promoted from de facto Offensive Coordinator to Offensive Coordinator this past offseason.

Personally, I think Weis is full of crap!
The Pats have moved on and he needs to move on. He just loves the name dropping for recruiting purposes.
