Week 17 NFL games - odds, tv info, previews and predictions

John Morgan

Week 17 is highlighted by three division title games, as the Panthers-Falcons kick off early, the Lions visit Green Bay late, and then Cincinnati plays Pittsburgh on Sunday night. Perhaps the most intriguing game is San Diego at Kansas City, which is the

Chargers down to Kansas City's backup QB 10-0 early with a playoff spot on the line, yeesh.

Saints are pathetic. Down 10-0 to a team that you'd think was playing to lose (to secure the #1 overall pick)

After successfully calling the Bengals upset of the Broncos last week, I'd love to call for a Raiders upset of the Broncos and a Bengals win making the Broncos play next week but I can't bring myself to do it.

Halftime scores for the early games

Chiefs 16, Chargers 7
KC almost got their first TD from a WR, but Dwayne Bowe fumbled the ball.
KC defense forces Chargers to punt four times.

Browns 3, Ravens 3
Baltimore could be blowing golden opportunity to make playoffs, with San Diego losing.
Harbaugh went for it on 4th down rather than take easy FG; didn't get it.
Kruger sacks Flacco for a 22-yard loss.

Texans 14, Jaguars 10
3rd Down: Houston 5/8, Jacksonville 0/0
Jags' Dwayne Gratz with a 55-yard pick six.

Colts 17, Titans 7
Total Yards: Indy 203, Tenn 106
Yards per Play: Indy 6.8, Tenn 3.0

Bills 17, Patriots 6
Buffalo: 11 first downs, 6.3 yards per play
New England: 6 first downs, 4.0 ypp

Dolphins 17, Jets 14
Geno completes his first eight passes(!); 9/10, 122 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Tannehill 15/20, 161 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

Dallas 27, Washington 10
DeMarco Murray breaks Emmitt Smith's Cowboy franchise single season records for carries (384), rushing yards (1,822) and yards from scrimmage (2,232).
Dez Bryant breaks Terrell Owen's team record for touchdown receptions in a season (16).
Romo 16/20, 225 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT

Bears 3, Vikings 3
Five punts and two field goals.
Cutler 14/19, but for only 85 yards.

Bucs 20, Saints 7
Mike Evans sets Tampa Bay franchise record with 12th TD reception.
Bucs with 148 yards rushing in first half.
Tampa Bay needs to lose to get the number pick in the draft, but appear to be on their way to getting that wrong too.

The Jets got stuffed on fourth down inside the Dolphins' 5 -- and then gave up a 97-yard TD run by Lamar Miller.

Longest run from scrimmage in Dolphins history, and Miami now leads 24-14.

Season in a nutshell for the Jets.

Raven's packing it in.

F*ck you Brees

Justin Houston has three sacks today, giving him 21 on the season to break Derrick Thomas' team record for the Chiefs.

He needs just two more to pass the (bogus) NFL single-season record held by Michael Strahan (22.5 in 2011, thanks in large part to Brett Favre).

Raven's packing it in.
I don't understand why they are so flat.

They're at home, playing against an undrafted rookie QB making his first start, against a team with a horrible run defense, needing a win (and for KC to not blow a 12-point lead) to get in the playoffs. On top of that winning teams coming off a loss usually play with a higher sense of urgency and are more focused.

They of all teams should know that anything can happen once you get into the post season.

Some things never change:

Jets waste a timeout and get penalized for 12 men on the field.

Case Keenum is pure garbage. He does not belong in the NFL.

  • Chiefs lead Chargers, 19-7
  • Browns lead Ravens, 10-3
  • Jaguars lead Texans, 17-14
If these scores hold, the Chiefs will get the final wild card in the AFC.

A symbol of how much the NFL has changed over recent years:

Ryan Tannehill breaks Dan Marino's franchise record with most completions in a season, with 386.

Jets now winning 27-24.
In Jet-like fashion they lose when they need to win, and win when they need to lose.
If the Jets win they fall to sixth in the draft, being passed by Oakland and Washington.

Routing for the Browns to rally and beat Baltimore

Last time a Chiefs WR got a TD, Abraham Lincoln was President.

rivers is a trooper...that's for dam sure

After Eddie Royal's apparent TD catch is overturned on replay, the Chargers are unable to score and turn it over on downs inside the 10-yard line.

San Diego trails 19-7 and is eliminated from the postseason with a loss.

Drew Brees' 36-yard TD TD pass to Marques Colston:

  • Extended Brees' consecutive games with a TD streak to 36.
  • Gave the Saints a 21-20 lead over the Bucs with under 2 minutes left. If that score holds, Tampa Bay will pick No. 1 overall in the 2015 draft.

Nice job by the ravens to squeak 3 wins against rookie QBs at home in their last 7 games to get into the playoffs.

There won't be any of those in the playoffs
