An NFL coach and coaching staff play a much greater role in the success of failure of a team than does a MLB manager and his staff. Baseball to a far greater degree is an individual sport... Each player is responsible for his season's stats and play...
The Redsox players, vets, rookies, old and young and in between, have almost to a man, had bad seasons. And yet almost all the focus is on management and the manager. I am esp pissed off by the young and near young players who because of injuries, and more or less meaningless games, have been given every chance to show their stuff, and advance their careers, but except for Ciriaco, have failed to do this.
And the leadership qualities of those who played well enough (very few) has been dismally lacking, hurting the team part of a winning season.
This is why almost no player on the Red Sox is indispensable to the Redsox future. And why our prospects do not look very good. Even the managers available appear, at least to me, less promising than Bobby Valentine.
