Hopefully the Bodden signing will be final in the morning.

Then we can settle down with our secondary all but set with
CB: Bodden, Butler, Springs, Wilhite, Wheatley
    S: Meriweather, Sanders, Chung, McGowan
    DB/ST: Arrington/Lockett

There is always room for an upgrade if a free agent or draftee is there for us, but there is no need.

agreed. assuming we sign bodden, there is no reason to overallocate anymore resources into our Db's, not when we have other needs in the front 7, WR, and TE

One question if you could clear this up. Why did the pats spend their highest pick in 2009 (#34) on Chung if he plays SS, knowing Meriweather is right there. Can he play FS?

I certainly can't clear this up. I'll try though.

I think the presumption is that Meriweather could move to FS if Chung developed to be a starter. Also, the thought was that we needed depth at SS with Harrison not coming back.

Finally, Chung is a top STer, although I was flamed when I suggested that this was a critical factor in the pick.
    ================
For the record, I didn't want Chung. There were better choices at 34 and OK safeties available later in the draft.
    =====================
    BOTTOM LINE
We're fine at safety with the four that we have. Chung being a top STer makes him an OK pick.

    I, too, wonder this.

That said, as much as I hate Meriweather's tackling I don't mind Sanders/Meriweather.

I actually like Sanders a lot more than McGowan.

You've found a new role for Maroney!

As long as he develops into being a lot of packages, I don't mind him not being a starter.
    --------------
I believe the his special teams skill was a factor, remember he pancaked the SAME colts guy four times on a kick return? I thought I was watching madden. I hope he becomes the S.O.B of the defense.

I got hella distracted, rofl! Damn those M' names

Regarding him though; I dislike both of their clutch play, they both had potential they don't live up to.

Also this gives this unit a real chance to gel and to be used in multiple packages.. this is going to be a really strong unit in 2010 and beyond.

I expect BB to go after the front 7 big time in the draft.. w/ those top 4 picks.

I'm all for using four of our first five picks for the defensive front seven. I expect one pick to be used for a receiver or tight end.

I have a feeling we might address WR/RB needs with our first, and our seconds will be used on defensive front seven.

I expect us to meet the WR in free agency. I would be fine with Spiller at 22.

Yeah I want, RB, TE, OLB, DE in no particular order for the first four picks. I want Morris and Taylor both cut loose.

Who do you think that we'd acquire in FA for WR?

Think we would get our #1WR in the draft next season [possibly with our Raiders pick?]

I have a feeling that we're going to trade back and pick up extra picks. Hopefully not entirely out of the 1st round. Getting a Late 1st and an extra 3rd for #22 sounds pretty good to me.

Am I the only one who thinks Wilhite sucks? He reminds me of Delta O'Neal. Yes, that bad.

WR crop is weak in this draft imo.. the only RB I would take is Spiller.. if he is there.. they will take him no doubt!..

I don't see them spending pics on a position (TE) that is quite obvious not a priority in this new version of our offense.

Now there WR pick in 2011 is looking great as there are some STUDS coming out next year and we WILL have a top 5 pick.

The Pats don't have nearly as strong a distinction between FS and SS as many teams do. It seems to me like every safety that we have is somewhere between a pure FS and a pure SS.

Hell no. Meriweather would play that role, and in fact has. Chung is strictly a thumper. Don't remember when they put him in coverage preseason? wasn't pretty.

He might even be that hybrid type they were trying to get Tank Wlliams to play.
