I really like some of the DBs in this draft, enough that I wouldn't take two LB. I'm intrigued by Pozluzny, I wonder if he has size potential to get to 245, that's not a lot more weight and it's big enough.I say draft both back to back.
Name: Patrick WillisDrafting a fast sideline to sideline ILB would really bolster the pats LB group. They also need to identify and sign a talented free agent linebacker who can start right away. IMO they need to find the next Colvin and aggressively pursue him.

Name: Zak DeOssie (+) Coming off InjuryAnother guy the patriots scouts have been all over is Zak DeOssie ive heard.
I agree with that but there's so many DBs this year that they won't be gone. Just safeties, I like Nelson, Landry, Griffin and Merriweather in Round 1. And there's a good group of CB too.and i know about the Defensive backs but if guys like Landry, Griffin and so forth are gone then i say why not?
It would be sweet to pull another Wilfork with this guy - a player who looked to be top ten the year before, slips to us late in the first round, then plays like top ten with the Patriots :rocker:Poz last year was rated higher than A J Hawk for every ones information.

ILB is more of a need, I'll give you that. With Vrabel and Colvin outside, we just need a vet backup to go with the developing Woods and we're pretty much set there. Inside we have Bruschi and slop.
I won't be disappointed with them both but as long as his behavior checks out I'd probably take Merriweather with one of the picks.

No way whatsoever. This clown is trouble just waiting to happen ...........................I won't be disappointed with them both but as long as his behavior checks out I'd probably take Merriweather with one of the picks.
We need to draft LBs and DEs... for 2008 - 2009.
They tried to get more speed in the center of the field, by putting former SS Alexander into the middle. Than Vrabel bumped TBC, and they split snaps until Colvin got hurt, and both played.
Alexander an UDFA and a ST player was faster, than Vrabel, but his inexperience proved a liability in coverage, and he was also exploited by the Colts running game up the middle.
BB usually floods the defense with DBs against a passing team, but we just didn't have any left for this game on this day. Harrison was out, Hawkins went down with injury, and Geno, Tebuckey, Mitchell, Gay and others were injured and on IR.
There also wasn't any other adequate ILBs, as Seau and Gardner were also on IR. Just too many injuries all in one area. Still they were only one minute away from another Super bowl.
The Patriots are congratulating the Colts for winning, and do not make excuses. I suspect that many defensive players like Bruschi, Colvin, Wilfork, and others were all playing with the flu, and it showed after a couple of quarters when their endurance just wasn't there. but for the half game the were able to play, they pulverized the Colts.
I still say the Patriots are in the unique position of not having to put a better player in any of the starting 25, including the specialists. That's not to say that the Pats can't upgrade in places, and they will, but there are competent starters everywhere including the reserves. This team is stronger than any other.
Wait till next year.
Also, there is always the chance that Bruschi may retire as was the case with Ted Johnson prior to 2005 NFL season.I actually think this is the surest way NOT to get back to a Super Bowl next year or the year after. The speed and age issue on defense issue, particularly at the ILB positions needs to be addressed immediately. I'm sure it wasn't fun to have the flu, but it goes well beyond that.
Seau will be 38 next year. What are the odds he gets through a full season given his recent injury history? Bruschi should be helped by the healing of his scaphoid by next year, but he's still going to be 34.
Given that, it's not only time to start drafting their replacements, it's time to get them on the field whether their replacements are rookies, Free Agents or a combination of both. It's hard to imagine Eric Alexander and Barry Gardner fitting that bill.

http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.htmlIf Willis is so highly rated would he last until pick #24? One site has him ranked as the #1 overall ILB.

Bruschi needs to decide whether to retire prior to the 2007 NFL draft since it would affect the Patriots overall draft strategy. You're right. But I thnk Bruschi comes back for the last year of his contract and calls it quits after that. Either way, I don't see him putting the Pats in the predicament Johnson did by retiring just before or during camp. But yeah, he hasn't gauranteed a return so who knows.
I seriously doubt David Harris falls late into the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft unless he flops at the 2007 Combines. One of the top 3 would be with our first pick, and then David Harris would be avaialbe in the second, possibly third.
