Three weeks left in the preseason, who knows who will get hurt or cut or even traded.... still, not too early to predict this year's playoff teams, right?

I predict the AFC playoff participants will be:

    Patriots
    Steelers
    Ravens
    Chargers
    Texans
    Chiefs

With runerups but out of the money
    Colts

People are giving the Steelers too much credit. They missed the playoffs both years after the 2005/2008 Superbowls. Their team is old as hell with injury concerns all over the place.

The Steelers tend to have down years after going to the Super Bowl and I think that trend will continue. They do luck out however drawing the NFC West but they also frequently play down to their competition. In a scheduling anomaly they play the AFC South 4 straight games weeks 3-6. I don't ever remember that happening before.

I also think age is finally going to catchup with the Ravens defense and they are going to fall off.

So my sleeper pick to win a division is the Browns based upon:

    1. Addition through subtraction of Eric the Fat.
    2. Losses last year by

    Tampa (10-6) 3 points
    KC (10-6) 2 points
    Balt (12-4) 7 points
NYJ (11-5) 6 Points in OT
    JAX (8-8) 4 points
    ATL (13-3) and Balt (12-4) 10 points
Two bad beats to SB loser Pitt

    3. They beat the Pats and Saints and pretty handily.

    4. McCoy will be better in year two and losing the old coaching staff will help him.

    5. They had a solid draft that will help both sides of the ball. Taylor and Shread especially plus Little if he has his head straight.

Every year there's a team out of nowhere so people can laugh and disagree but picking all the favorites is laughable too.

Indy benefits from an easier first half and I just cannot believe in the Texans until they prove me wrong.

    In order of seading

    NE
    SD
    Indy
    Cleveland
    NYJ
    Houston

    NO
    Philly
    GB
    AZ
    Atlanta
    Detroit

Detroit is my other sleeper with that DL dominating and making up for their secondary. Contingent on Stafford being reasonably healthy which probably makes this a suckers bet.

I agree Cleveland is much improved. I see the Steelers, Ravens and, to a lesser extent, Jets, trending downward, while the Chargers, Browns, and Texans trending upward. Week 2 at home against San Diego may have a lot to do with who gets homefied advantage should we see them again in the playoffs.

It's setting up for a Patriots vs. Packers/Saints Super Bowl in Indy. Maybe this time, Peyton will be sitting in a box cheering for us at the big dance.

I'm not gonna try to guess every team that will be in the playoffs but I will make a couple bold predictions.....Both Pittsburgh and Green Bay will miss the playoffs, Cleveland and Detroit will both make the playoffs as a wild card.

That's all I got for now

I could see that happening! Depending on QB play the NFC North is a very tough division!

If Stafford stays healthy, I can see a team going 9-7 or better!

After years of the AFC being the conference with the better top end teams it really seems like the NFC is now the conference where the top teams are really improving. It may be that I just haven't paid enough attention but to me the Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs, Colts, and Jets are not better teams than they were last season and I see the teams the Patriots need to worry about the most as the NFC teams they would have to beat in a Super Bowl. That doesn't mean it would be easy to get to the Super Bowl, as the top AFC teams are still good teams, i just don't see how they improved, whereas I think the Patriots have improved significantly, although some of that is just fan projection, such as giving credit for young players getting better without doing the same for their rivals.

Because of the screwed up offseason i didn't bother to buy any pre-season magazines as they were irrelevant by the end of the first week of free agency so maybe it's time for me to go look at the moves these teams have made for a better idea of where things stand.

    Disable Jersey

The Chiefs and Chargers will both be improved. Whether that translates to wins for them, with their difficult schedules, is a different question.
