I've been making a point not to read on here as often... it angries up my blood! But listening to the President and news anchors has angried it up even more. This is NOT a 'wartime' scenario, Bush is NOT a 'wartime' president. This is an occupation. 'Wartime' means all citizens MUST make sacrifices in order to have a successful war. 'Wartime' means any one of my age could be drafted. I'm tired of everyone claiming special circumstances apply because it's 'wartime.' When I have to worry about being drafted, when I have to donate my pots and pans, when I have to worry about rationing meat, sugar, gasoline, etc. then I will call it wartime. (Fortunately) no American's life has changed because of this occupation except for those unfortunate enough to have loved ones assigned to/killed [in] this haphazard and poorly planned occupation. Me and most of you reading this still drive cars EVERYWHERE and go to the cinema, eat at restaurants, and skip the 'World News' page to read about the latest Patriots free-agency move. The fact that anyone would use this 'wartime' phrase as justification for loss of rights/civil liberties smacks of propaganda. Worse is that we all so readily seem to buy into this 'wartime' scenario. It is a new definition for people of my generation who have never known what it's like to go wanting. We all think wars are like video games with all of the bad guys having the same poorly-rendered face and are always fought somewhere else over an absolute right/wrong. We've never had to make those sacrifices I mentioned above, let alone had to worry about someone's tanks rolling down Main Street. We think this is as bad as a war gets. This is as GOOD as war gets and I want everyone to know that I, at least, understand this and so can no longer accept the constant usage of the phrase 'wartime.' Thanks for letting me rant!
