I've been making a point not to read on here as often... it angries up my blood! But listening to the President and news anchors has angried it up even more.

This is NOT a 'wartime' scenario, Bush is NOT a 'wartime' president. This is an occupation. 'Wartime' means all citizens MUST make sacrifices in order to have a successful war. 'Wartime' means any one of my age could be drafted. I'm tired of everyone claiming special circumstances apply because it's 'wartime.' When I have to worry about being drafted, when I have to donate my pots and pans, when I have to worry about rationing meat, sugar, gasoline, etc. then I will call it wartime. (Fortunately) no American's life has changed because of this occupation except for those unfortunate enough to have loved ones assigned to/killed [in] this haphazard and poorly planned occupation. Me and most of you reading this still drive cars EVERYWHERE and go to the cinema, eat at restaurants, and skip the 'World News' page to read about the latest Patriots free-agency move. The fact that anyone would use this 'wartime' phrase as justification for loss of rights/civil liberties smacks of propaganda. Worse is that we all so readily seem to buy into this 'wartime' scenario.

It is a new definition for people of my generation who have never known what it's like to go wanting. We all think wars are like video games with all of the bad guys having the same poorly-rendered face and are always fought somewhere else over an absolute right/wrong. We've never had to make those sacrifices I mentioned above, let alone had to worry about someone's tanks rolling down Main Street. We think this is as bad as a war gets. This is as GOOD as war gets and I want everyone to know that I, at least, understand this and so can no longer accept the constant usage of the phrase 'wartime.' Thanks for letting me rant!

I just made a post using the "occupation" ... many try to rewrite history.

In any case...my post says the Iraq war was considered over one of the days Saddam's statue was knocked over...Rumsfeld disbanded the military & police guaranteeing a 5-7 year stay...it's been an occupation ever since.

Excellent post, BruschiOnTap. My own feeling is this is the middle aged white guy's* war. Viagra didn't cure their insecurities, so they'll show their toughness from the comfort of their Lazyboy. These same people are the one's least willing to sacrifice, lest that will somehow involve higher taxes, gas prices, etc.

*Okay, I'm a middle aged white guy, but my views are in the minority among that demographic.

That's exactly the result of Rumsfeld disallowing anyone to provide an exit strategy. Now my blood's all angried up again...

Patters, thanks for the smile. I can just imagine Dick Cheney popping a Viagra and telling his wife in a Barry White voice all about his Iraqi invasion plans :)

Someday... people will look back on this period of time the way we look at Victorian England: a bunch of hollow ideals flouted on the surface to cover up the sins committed in pursuit of money/empire. Cheney even resebles Victoria in profile ;)

On top of it all you cannot read...you see a member...a key word or 2 and you go off. This post makes you look horribly arrogant...you need to chill a bit and learn to read.

BTW: @4 OR 5 YEARS AGO I FOUND THE DOCUMENT CONCERNING THE PRE-ELECTION

PLANS TO INVADE IRAQ. I POSTED IT HERE AND NOBODY IN THIS FORUM AND MANY OTHER FORUMS

I CHECKED EVER NEW OF THAT DOCUMENTS EXISTENCE. I KNEW ALL ABOUT THE PRE-ELECTION

PLANS TO INVADE IRAQ...WELL BEFORE YOU EVER DID. IN FACT...I REPOSTED IT AND YOU WERE

QUITE HAPPY TO SEE IT....I'VE BEEN ON TOP OF IRAQ BEFORE 9/11.

I am somewhere between middle age and old age, and agree with your sentiments completely. I will take this one step further, it is an "investor class war" these are the folks who continue to make a lot of money, with little discomfort to their lifestyle. It continues to be fought my poor and immigrant folks who view the military as a way out of poverty, there have been some poster children for the middle class, but most are just poor folk.

It isn't a war against a military it is a war against a "GANG" A Gang of savages, they don't have generals or uniforms, they are nothing but bloodthirsty religious fanatics that hide in caves like animals, BUT THEY ARE VERY VERY DANGEROUS.

    The Draft:
NEVER, all a draft would do is fill the army with Gang Bangers, Junkies, Bush Haters, and Weirdo's. We now have Military People that want to be Military People, the last thing America needs is an Army full of "Sean Penn's".

    Pots & Pans:
The Bush Haters would never donate their frying pans.

One of the more illogical rants I've read in here. So basically, under your calculatons, a war can only be constituted as such if, and when, we are subject to a draft, we are forced to donate our pots and pans, we can't drive EVERYWHERE, and sugar is rationed.

    You should run for office.

It would only be a war if John Fonda Kerry or Al Boob Gore were running it.

Billy Blew Dress was Bombing Hospitals and the Chinese Embassy over in Bosnia, now, By God that was a real war :singing:
