Per Mike Reiss, with Malcolm Jenkins scheduled to visit next week:

    Patriots blog - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

I personally don't see Davis as a good fit for the Pats. Jenkins is more interesting as a Ty Law type CB.

Oustanding physical talent but....he is a mental question mark. I dont see how he isnt a fit, Jenkins is more of a tampa two physical corner to me.

He's not a fit because he is a "mental question mark". Physically, he could fit almost any scheme.

Moss, Merriweather, Wilfork(I believe), Dillon? all mental question marks in their own way.

Belichick will have to judge his personality for a team fit and a reliability fit. I'm not worried about his intelligence - Asante Samuel got a 14 on the wunderlich.

I'm not so much questioning his intelligence as his mental toughness. He's inconsistent and has lapses where he disappears - not a great thing when a mental lapse can mean 6 points.

And that's what Belichick, et al, will have to judge - I'm glad they're not about to write off a top talent, though, without taking a close look at him.

Nicely said. I wouldn't want them to pass up a potential top talent without taking a look for themselves. The FO appears to be doing a very thorough job of looking into all the potential talent.

Is it just me or does it seem like we find out about almost everybody they bring in? I mean last year I remember hearing about a few but now its like its a new prospect every day.

I'm turned off by all the reports on Davis. Absolutely bad publicity everywhere you turn with this guy. And yes, I think you are all right that BB and co should find out for themselves before shunning the guy like most of us have.

I still like Jenkins though. Regardless of his 40 time I think he will be real good. His pedigree goes a long way with some of us. He had to cover and tackle guys like Robiske and Wells on a weekly basis which just makes him more prepared imo. A real football player, if he falls to 23 I would hope he would be the pick.

After reading the PFW writeup on him I can only imagine how Belichick will interview him to get to the real person. They definitely make him sound irrecoverable from a behavioral standpoint.

Mayo, Is it me or does there seem to be more visits and trips and meetings than in the past with "draftees". You think 11 choices triggered that?

Yeah, I think it did. It does seem like more visits than in the past, and at a greater variety of positions. I think that with 4 early picks and 11 total there are just so many ways this team could go that the FO is really being diligent about not overlooking anyone. I also wonder if some of the visits may be to "muddy the waters" a bit and keep other teams off balance as to what their actual direction is. Either way, they seem to be doing a good job of it.

I believe the team has used all their allotted visits in the past, we just haven't been able to identify all of the visitors, though I think we've consistently identified 1/2 - 2/3. We're currently at 2/3.

    New England has six picks in the Top 100, three of them in the prime value range (20-50);
-- if you didn't need to fill a lot of holes on your roster,
-- and you had an interest in dealing at least one pick forward to 2010,
-- and you wanted to generate some interest in trading for a NE controlled pick,
-- letting people know who you were looking at might be an attempt to generate that interest in trading with NE.

I think there is another advantage to bringing in a lot of players and it is that you can scout them for weaknesses to exploit as a future opponent. I'm such a cynic! :D

I hope we don't go anywhere near Davis.

Regarding Jenkins, he will never get to 23 (and I wouldn't be surpirsed if we moved up into the teens if he is still there). He reminds me of Ty Law

    Mayo--
it seems as though you may be coming around to thinking we may grab a CB in the past week or so--is this true? I know you were very opposed about a week ago, saying no cb in the first 100 etc

I feel Davis is one of the most complete CB in this draft. Don't like Jenkins and his lack of run support IMO. He's quick smart and understands situational football.
