4.75 40 isn't actually fast for a linebacker these days. He's got good size though. Redd has been given a shot to impress, but it's still a long shot. He has to turn heads in training camp to make this very deep, veteran team.

I like him...as well as Dragosavich...who could REALLY have a good effect on the team, if he booms punts when needed...I also like Wendell on the inside to give Yates a tussle..but there might be another surprise...who really knows..Redd?? Absolutely...

Redd had a 4.56 40 at his college's pro day. This plus his size is

probably why the Patriots signed him. He and Dragosavich are my

UDFA choices for making the 53 man roster. Sooner or later, the

Patriots have to keep a few developmental players like Redd on

their roster and cut players like Alexander and Izzo.

Pro Day 40's are BS. Pay no attention to those. Regardless, I'm intrigued by Redd and Guyton

It is impossible for me to agree more with your final sentence. I may pop the bottle of champagne I had saved for the SB, for the day that Alexander and esp. Izzo are no longer on the team. Woods can leave with them, too. I will never forgive him for not recovering that fumble. Players worthy of wearing the Flying Elvis make those plays.

    Adalius - Hobson - Mayo - Vrabel
    Redd - (Seau?) - Bruschi - Crable
one of Guyton, Woods, Alexander, Ruud, Izzo; Redd could be #9 if a vet LB is signed, e.g.: Rosie, Spikes, Trotter, Kacyvenski, Brian Simmons, Rob Morris, Kendrell Bell, Randall Godfrey, Keith (son of Julius) Adams, Donnie Spragan or Raonall Smith.

    #87 Jersey

Redd would have to be a complete slouch to not stay here at least 3 years. He looks like he will be a very good complementary LB on this team for the next few years. Especially on short yardage 3rd downs ... we really need a young strong guy like him.

You'd rather go off his time from Freshman year? He wasn't at the combine. It's the best time we've got. Adjust it down slightly, but it isn't as if they put jet packs on them at their pro day.

Big Redd is my binky even moreso than Guyton I think Guyton can contribute on special teams early.
But I think Redd can be special and would gladly part with Alexander and Izzo to take that chance.

I don't, because by all rights he should have had that fumble; I have no earthly idea why they didn't blow the play dead at that point.

I didn't say go by the freshman time, did I? I think its just important to note that Pro Day 40 times are almost always inaccurate in favor of the player. And I agree, adjust it slightly down. If I had to guess, I'd say his real 40 time is somewhere in the mid 4.6's

what do you mean they are bogus? They most certainly are not. They are timed by nfl teams scouts and staffs and not by the school. What has to be taken into consideration was where he actually ran, Nfl teams will add as much as a .1 if he runs indoors on a track and will adjust it downwards if he ran outside on tall grass. Another thing with prodays "scoring" is you have guys from different teams with watches, and that will vary by about .1 according to what i read.

What I think is at some positions there will be a real competition...NOT starting wise for the top 30 positions...but for those at the bottom of the roster..and the Practice Squad...Every year there is optimism at this time..and sometimes, like last year, that competition vanishes..I really was disappointed last year that NONE of the 3 drafted lineman stuck in some way..even as PSquad projects..one would have thought that one of the three might have..and yes, I do know that Oldenburg was on the Squad for a bit of time..but obviously no one of the three stood out.. And the lineman that was there more was Dan Connolly..
I really believe this year is different than last...a MUCH better crop of rooks..esp I think the UDFAs..I think at least 2 will make it.. Redd is one...and I bet there will be another suprise..

Well, you said "pay no attention to those" leaving us with nothing but his freshman time. So yes, you did.

Maybe because the pile formed too quickly after the fumble. The zebras then won't blow the whistle until everyone has been separated. A more egregious non-whistle-blowing happened in SB 39, when Brady recovered the fumbled handoff with Faulk, late in the 1st half. He had both arms around the ball as the Eagles fell on him. The play should have been blown dead because TB was down by contact with possession. Cost us at least 3 points.

Redd and or Guyton are my favorites right now based on their reported strengths/weaknesses and their measurables. I'm hoping both land on the PS - there likely isn't going to be room for them on the 53.

Room can be made, if they've earned the room. Izzo, Alexander and Woods are easily - easily - replaceable. I hope that the FO has learned its lesson via the Garrett Mills/Justin Rogers fiascos.
