Sign Vick...let him mop up games for Tommy, and/or drop him in for a couple Wild Cat type plays...then trade him when the time is right. Once all this dancing around the hot potatoe ends, and Vick seems to have reintegrated himself and is a good citizen, his value will go up, and some team will give up high picks to get him next year. Assuming he plays nice, of course.

Sure, let's sign Vick and give ESPN more ammunition of how the Pats's franchise is going downhill. Also, the risk is way higher than the reward because there will be a ton of protesters at practice and outside the stadium. I think you really have to ask yourself, do the Pats really need Vick? They don't, because they have players on offense that can beat you straight up. In fact, aside from the Chargers, Colts and especially the Pats, they don't need trick plays on offense to beat you. There's no point of signing Vick.

    No Jersey Selected

How about we have a nice quiet season in Foxboro which ends in a Super Bowl win; while ESPN gives all the press to Favre/whatever team signs Vick/the Bills and TO/maybe Ben Roethlisberger?

Because BB makes his personel moved based on what ESPN will think

I am guessing Peta wouldn't be allowed to protest on Krafts property.

No but that doesn't mean he couldn't help.

You don't sign players as an "investment" to trade later. You sign players that help your team win.

Matt Cassel was not drafted because BB thought he might be able to convert a 7th into half of a 2nd round pick. MC was drafted because BB thought Matt might be able to win a few games if Brady got injured.

You sign players that will help your team win. Vick doesn't do that.

If I see one more 'let's sign Vick because...!' threads, I think I'll have an epileptic fit.

Methinks it might rival the old 'Sign Peppers!' threads from a few months ago...

Vick was always overrated as a QB.

Not even close. Peppers would have added value to the team....this is the equivilant of having threads on why we should trade Moss for Ochocinco.

I think Moss + Welker would be a good Ochocinco trade bait.

That's only slightly worse than the idiot who suggested on another board that Patriots fans would gladly trade Welker and a mid round-pick for Willie Parker. . . . [Thankfully, the Pats fans on that board said exactly what the idiot could do with said idea. :) ]

    #50 Jersey

What makes you think that Bob Kraft or Bill Belichick want to touch the head ache known as Michael Vick? First off, he's a guy who hasn't played a down of football in over 1.5 years. So, there is no telling how much his skills have degenerated. Secondly, unless something changed, Vick still is facing charges in Virginia that were not part of his plea agreement. Third, who would want to trade for a 30 something year old guy who is a horrible passer and who really would only be successful as a wing back lined out wide for screens or toss sweeps?

OK, serious question...what is the difference between what Vick did in Atlanta - being a threat to bootleg on each play - and the wildcat? Either way, the guy who takes the snap may or may not take off running. Can someone with a good understanding of the game please explain the big whoop about the wildcat?

It may not happen, but Kraft is all about buying low and selling high. When did he sign BB to his most recent extension? In the middle of Spygate. There's always risk involved with purchasing an asset at a discounted price, and BB is as good at evaluating and managing risk as anyone else in that business.

Might as well...we could use him as a pawn to get maybe even a 1st rounder...

Not surprised you're being attacked for "another Vick thread" but I think the premise is sound. Of course, as someone stated, you don't sign him *only* as trade bait; you sign him because you think he can somehow help the team in 2009. If they think that and sign him to a 2-yr deal, he produces in Year 1 you can flip him in Year 2.

Makes sense as long as NE thinks he is an actual asset for this season, which I think he could be as a returner and/or 1-2 play-a-game gadget player. And before people chime in with 1-2 plays isn't worth it, if he makes one play all season that helps the team win a game, he is worth it.

One end around for a TD, one kick return, one WR screen in the 4th quarter to seal a win, he's worth it.
