This is the type of **** that drives me insane. IF I had a dollar for everytime I had to deal with a city inspector, or some beauroweenie who's "code" was his own personal opinion, I'd be a rich man. If I were her neighbor I'd plant a garden asap so that "common" became the norm. What a nanny gubmit we've built.

OAK PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - "The price of organic food is kind of through the roof," said Julie Bass.

So, why not grow your own? However, Bass' garden is a little unique because it's in her front yard.

"We thought it'd be really cool to do it so the neighbors could see. The kids love it. The kids from the neighborhood all come and help," she said.

Bass' cool garden has landed her in hot water with the City of Oak Park. Code enforcement gave her a warning, then a ticket and now she's been charged with a misdemeanor.

Beam me up Scotty, there's no intelligent life here....who knows what a jury decision will be but if prosecutors keep pushing things to the limit just because they can then they are just deepening the mistrust and ill will among citizens who may wind up as jurors. They may in turn bite them right in the ass in actual important cases.

Not saying it's right or wrong - just making an observation.

I was recently commissioned to write a series of 10 articles on "gardening," for a large "how to" site with each individual article giving instructions on growing one particular type of garden. (ie: rock garden, vegetable garden, wildlife friendly garden, zen garden, etc.)

I'm pretty much allowed to fly solo on these things, but one of the things I HAD to include in each article, was a clear instruction to "check with your local zoning commission before starting your ______ garden."

In some cities you have to check with the local zoning board on where you're allowed to put your trash can. It's absurd how far these people go is the basic point here. Pretty soon you'll have to ask some beauroweenie when it's ok to take a whiz in your own home.

Well, it hasn't gone that far yet.....but Bush did make sure that even though you could still take a whiz in your own home that he could control how efficiently you got rid of it.

In 1992 President George H. W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act. This law made it mandatory that a toilet could not consume more than 1.6 gallons per flush. This law went into effect Jan 1, 1994 for residential buildings and Jan 1, 1997 for commercial building

So that now you have to flush twice (or more). Think of how much we're saving!

This is one of these frivolous cases that get certain bureaucrats depends in a bunch...

An advocate will come forth and embarass this inspector, and things will be made whole again... the circle will once again be unbroken.

Maybe this has to do with this town being more "affluent" than most in Michigan, the median income for a household in the city was $48,697, and the median income for a family was $54,786.

My Gardens are over my leach field... gravity pulls things down, not up. Leach fields are usually 3 to 6 feet below the ground, have never seen a root to a vegetable that long...
