Didn't see a thread on the main board (Mods please merge if I missed it). Assuming the league sources are even remotely correct, the estimated 12.5 million remaining gives the Patriots some nice wiggle room to make moves if deemed necessary. It should be interesting to see what the FA does with it.

Updated salary-cap space numbers for all 32 teams
Jason La Canfora

AFC East
$24,465,476 - Buffalo Bills
$12,578,934 - New England Patriots
$10,781,806 - New York Jets
$09,502,565 - Miami Dolphins

Best/Worst SC Position

$32,759,542 - Kansas City Chiefs
$374,688.00 - Minnesota Vikings

I assume you meant FO. They don't have to do anything with it at the moment. They could use some on veteran cuts, but given the timing I don't see them adding many of those at this juncture - they have enough new pieces trying to fit into the puzzle. They can use some of it to extend guys like Welker and Branch in season and perhaps Mayo at the end of the season to cap friendly deals. Or they can just carry it forward. Peter King commented in MMQB that the cap will remain flat under the new CBA until 2014 when the new TV deals kick in. He believes that is why there was such an unexpected volume of only one and two year deals for FA this season. He estimates as much as a $20M jump in 2014. I doubt the league will treat it that way since one time exponential jumps are what caused the problems with the last CBA. They will roll in the new CBA money incrementally. That said the cap will probably only go up 4-5% per year over the next two years, so smart teams will manage space they have now wisely.

Wow, how are the Vikings in cap hell?

yikes, eagles are still 2M under cap  Is this before or after Vick's deal

Obviously before since the deal and the list only leaked out on the same day. Not sure Vick's deal is even filed yet or if it was it was filed late yesterday when LaCanfora tweeted the guaranteed money as $36M and not $40M. The Eagles won't likely seek a lot of cap relief though (from his $16M tag which is close to what this deal results in in AAV) via structure because that would set them up with potential dead cap. Despite what they say (because part of the object is to project confidence when you do one of these deals) they have to know the risk he presents due to his style of play...

Just saw a NFP blurb that says his cap # will drop from $16.2 to $14.4M. So the deal will free up another $1.8M. It is worth noting that in the good old days the first year cap # on all these deals would have been maxed downward into the mid single digits. Nobody seems to be doing that of late...going for more of the pay as you go structure and likely waiting to see how the future unfolds cap wise before restructuring later if needbe.

Adrian Peterson last year of rookie deal $10M+
Chad Greenway Franchise tag $10M+

1/6 of Cap space tied up in 2 guys not a QB or WR.

Not to mention a bunch of other high priced guys make $6-7M salaries this year.

How about the Lions? How did they get to this point?

I'll never understand these lists. Why does it always seem like the teams who have all the cap space never sign anyone while other teams are spending money like there is no cap?

And are still a poor team! McNabb probably won't do much for them!
