"Let's see if the commissioner is man enough to face me," Specter (R., Pa.) said last night.

Goodell could not be reached to respond to Specter's challenge, but Joe Browne, the NFL's executive vice president of communications and public affairs, said: "We're not going to respond to that. Let that stay the way it is."

Earlier, Brown disputed the senator's assertion that the league never responded to his letters demanding that it explain why it destroyed evidence of the Patriots' spying.

"His office never asked us, 'Hey, why didn't you respond to the letter?' " Browne said. "We spoke to them about everything, including Super Bowl ticket requests, and it never came up."

Specter said he knew nothing about the ticket request, which came from his chief of staff, Scott Hoeflich. "I didn't know anything about it. But I'm a little amused that the NFL would make a public statement about it to try and embarrass me. They must feel pretty stunned by what I've said. It's pretty vindictive, but I think it's amusing."

The tickets were for a close friend of Hoeflich's. "I think he's prepared to pay the exorbitant prices," Specter said. "It wasn't a gift or a gratuity."

I really hope that Goodell plays his cards right and exposes Spector as the disgruntled Eagles fan he is. Spector sounds like some of the Eagles fans who've posted here. He is obviously a Patriot hater through & through. Imagine, a U.S. Senator allowing his hate to come out in front of the entire country!

Let us all hope that Goodell can embaress this man to the point of absolute public humilation...that would be beautiful to watch!

I thought Specter might have been someone I didn't particularly like all that much, but I couldn't remember what he looked like.

After looking his photos up on google I remembered exactly how I felt about him...:bricks:

Woa Nellie! Specter is falling deeper and deeper into the abyss:

    http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08033/854258-150.stm

........Further, as the Post-Gazette's Bob Smizik pointed out in a recent TV column, Specter intervened when it appeared the Federal Communication was going to vote on a proposal that would have brought the NFL Network and the cable giants to compulsory arbitration.......

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry should demand a Congressional investigation into the Reid family crack house operation found running in Spector's district and wearing his own teams colors. ;)

HMMM... wouldn't this be politics related????

destroying football tapes is more important to this tool than securing country borders????

this guy is clearly out of his mellon.

Here's my email to the Senator:

    Senator:

Back in 1972, I believe that while my back was turned, my little brother cheated me in checkers. I wish you to call him in front of the Judiciary Committee to answer these allegations.

That is how stupid you look, that on the eve of the Super Bowl, because your Eagles lost and you didn't get any Superbowl tickets, you re-hash this same old tired arguement.

If you knew anything about football, you would known that these tapes have nothing to do with the Patriots dominance, and you should be ashamed of yourself!

Please, stop calling yourself a Republican, it is an insult to the rest of us.

If only the Senator's from Mass weren't actually more corrupt than you, maybe they would have the balls to ask for an ethics hearing on your childlike behavior in this matter.

Here is his home page if you want to email him..
    http://specter.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Home.Home

IF YOU EMAIL HIM, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT HE IS A US SENATOR, SO CALL HIM WHATEVER YOU LIKE, JUST DO NOT MAKE ANY THREATS OF ANY KIND!!

I'd be interested to see how the group of 12 senators from New England will respond to this if it does go any further than public-grandstanding and sour grapes.

So first you threaten the nfl. Then one of your employees asks for something huge (superbowl tickets) from the nfl. In the real world, that may be seen as asking for a bribe or as extortion (why else would the nfl make available tickets for them).
And Specter sees this as funny.
