Classic, just classic.

Brown visits Jets

Patriots free agent wide receiver Troy Brown is visiting with the New York Jets today.

The Patriots expressed to Brown during this off-season that he is not currently in their plans for next season and that he was free to solicit offers from other teams if he planned on returning for a 16th season.

It was initially thought that the 36-year-old Brown, the Patriots all-time leader in receptions with 557, would not even consider teams that would be slated to play the Patriots this season.

However, visiting with the archrival Jets indicates that Brown is willing to explore all options before deciding whether or not he wants to play again next season. Losing Brown to the Jets, would be a tough blow for Patriots fans.

One of the most beloved players in franchise history, Brown has played his entire 15-year career in New England.

Only quarterback Steve Grogan (16 seasons) has had a longer Patriots career than Brown, who tied defensive lineman Julius Adams for the second-longest tenure with the franchise last season.

However, Brown didn't catch a single pass last season and he played in just one game.

He missed all of training camp following off-season knee surgery and was on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list for the first 11 games of the season.

Brown was activated from PUP on Nov. 27, but his only action came as a punt returner in a 28-7 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 23. He returned six punts for 55 yards.

The team's all-time leader in punt returns (252) and punt return yardage (2,625), Brown uncharacteristically had a punt carom off his facemask for a fumble against Miami.

In 2006, Brown caught 43 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

And if he signs, I guarantee we look like the bad guys.

noooooooooooooooooo!!!

Troy it would be real hard watchin you in green next year please don't do it. I can speak for most fans and say that if you do play for another team please stay away from the Jets, Colts, and Broncos. We will all follow you to any other team and hope the best for you as long as its not vs the Pats.

Why would you look like bad guys? They are probably gonna start doing what Tenn. has been doing to us, sign all of your free agents to try and gain an edge. We call the Titans our JV team.

As much as I hate this, he still wants to put more money away for later, who can blame him for that? I LOVE Troy, and hate the Jets with a passion, but in the same token, I understand, this is a business, and at the end of the day, if he can earn $$$$ with the Jets, then so be it, as much as it sucks!

Lol, well, as far as I can tell, only Pats fans dislike those teams.. Dislike seems a bit to nice of a word to use here, lol.

Because people will say that we let one of our most beloved players walk away, even though it wouldn't have cost us much to re-sign him. Kinda like what happened with Adam V.

Re: Ultimate Betrayal: Troy visiting Jets

It's a business. The Pats aren't showing loyalty to Troy by keeping him around another year when he wants to play; why should he show loyalty to us?

I love the guy, and it always amuses me when people get angry with a player for wanting to get a decent paycheck. It's not like he's Ty Law, saying one thing and doing another. All we heard was a report from 'sources' that said he wouldn't consider teams playing the Pats, nothing from Troy's mouth. And if the Jets want to pay him, good for him and good for them.

Yeah it sucks, but like I said, it's a business. Troy will retire a Patriot. I think that much is clear.

I feel so dirty just reading that.

It hurts to read that, but he's got to do what's best for him and I respect that !

Troy has always been a personal favorite of mine, but his time may be past. While you would like to see him retire with the Pats, his abilities may no longer make the grade for the team as WR or CB. If he believes he still has something left in the tank, I would not blame him for seeking a situation in which he can play. At the same time, if the Pats have assessed his skills and disagree, I would not blame the team for letting him go rather than letting him hold a rosterr spot.

I just hope Troy does something if he goes to another team and does not look like a veteran past his prime, damaging his body and reputation on a lousy team and then retiring. It would be better to see him step down if that is the case.

No one on this board (besides myself and maybe a few others) even wants Troy back so the more power to him.

I'd love and want Troy back on our team - but if our coaches feel he can no longer contribute to our team then I hope he can still somewhere else, even if it's the Jets.

The only reason I'd have no problem with this is due to the nonsense posts I've read here concering Troy. "HE'S DONE. HE HAS NOTHING LEFT AT ALL. JUST BECOME A WR COACH! WASTE OF A ROSTER SPOT! RETIRE WITH CLASS."

Want and would love Troy back with us next year - but he can do as he wishes.

I hope Troy Brown signs with the Jets. That will ensure the Pats don't waste a roster spot on him for the 4th consecutive year. He was finished in 2005, when his fumbled punt vs Denver cost the Pats the game. He should have got his pink slip then. Only a sentimental streak from Pats ownership and coaches kept him around so long.

Not like he forced the game saving fumble after Brady was picked off against the 14-2 Chargers in San Diego in 2006....

Maybe if we could invent a new position for him, like "interception returner tackling specialist" he could hang on a few more years. :bricks:

Its not personal. Its just business. If Troy can get another $million. who am I to begrudge him the money. He will retire as a Pat regardless.

Yea but it's different for guys like Troy. I wouldn't care if someone we signed as a FA was let go and signed with the Jets. Let's use Colvin as an example. I'm a huge Rosie fan, but he has no deep rooted loyalties to this organization. He was acquired as a FA, and let go. But Troy is a Patriot, and only a Patriot. It would be like Marvin Harrison being let go by the Colts, then coming to New England. It would kind of drag you down a bit since he's a Colts lifer, at least more so than some FA signing that left would.

Just another athlete who doesn't know his time is up. He could not make the lineup last year you'd think he would retire gracefully but instead it looks as though the hero will have to be dragged kicking and clawing out of the arena. Never to be heard from again.

After our "perfect" season that didn't turn out that way, this might be a great time to stop worrying about what people say about us.

Troy wants to play, he can sign with whoever wants him.

Not like the Jets are tough competition these days either.

It will be tough to wear my Troy Brown Jersey if he signes with the Jets.
