MYRON PRYOR played, in my opinion, a whale of a game, given the nature of how he got in there. Not a week when he can prep and study AS THE STARTER ('though, of course, he'd need to prep as if he would be), but - as with Cassel-for-Brady or Guyton-for-Mayo - as a guy thrust into a BIG spot early in the game. (Why does it always have to happen EARLY?!) It'll be interesting to see what happens if Wilfork's out for a bit. If Pryor continues to do a solid job, it's more evidence for the Patriots to base their decision on whether or not to sign VW at the end of the year. I say this as someone who would REALLY like them to sign him long-term, but I was pleased to see such a creditable showing by the rookie.

JONATHAN WILHITE was, if I understand correctly, a healthy scratch today. Granted he had poor coverage last week (and poor tackling), but I was surprised to see such a big demotion, if that is indeed what it was, especially considering DARIUS BUTLER was out, as well.

What do we make of this performance/healthy scratch? What do we read into it, if anything?

Where did you read that Wilhite was a healthy scratch?

Do you have a link? In post-game, BB said he had an injury. If

They're not signing Wilfork at $8M per year when they can pay Pryor and Brace less than $2M combined. It's just not happening.

the injury report states out, yet does not give a reason, hence ppl make the "assumption" hes a healthy scratch....

i doubt it myself, something must have been wrong....

but as for the CB, maybe since theyre all really good, it means that the one who plays best durin the week, will be the one plays

or maybe it depends on the wr's....ATL has fast and big wr's....the Jets have quick and smaller wr's...maybe were playing into each cb's strengths....

as for pryor, im extremely happy with his performance today, and i think wilfork will miss maybe a couple games tops (if any)....

if pryor plays good enough this season, i doubt big vince is coming back....however, the part that concerned me was brace not coming in....

the 2nd rounder should have replaced vince....i hope its more of an injury thing, b/c i had like to think taht no matter how good one of our 7th rounders turns out to be, our 2nd rounder does better....

Just because they were okay for 2 and a half quarters without him doesn't mean they won't need him.

Thanks for the scoop, and apologies to everyone. I saw that he was never on the injury report and didn't play, assumed a lot after that. My bad.

Let's re-focus this just on Pryor.

Well, they don't need him for $8M per year. That will be confirmed this offseason.

Well Pryor was playing over Brace, for whatever that's worth.

At the very least, looks like BB & Co. found another steal, along with Edelman and perhaps Hoyer.

Got a question for you guys. Whats the latest on Brandon Tate. Is he going to play this year, because besides moss, welker, and edelman, the pats got a problem with recievers.. In my opinion, the pats need someone who can stretch the field.(besides moss). Galloway isnt cutting it..

Sure, it may be early, but the writing's on the wall for big Vince, as much as I love him. Mayo is a 4-3 MLB to build around. Guyton is a 4-3 WLB. AD is the prototypical 4-3 SLB. Vince is a great 3-4 NT with a ton of value to us IF we were going to run a 3-4, but if we're going to be 4-3 most of the time, his value to us diminishes. And, from what I've seen, Pryor is going to be a STUD 4-3 DT, and Brace was an excellent 4-3 DT at BC. So, I think it's really looking like Vince's last season.

From what I can tell, a Belichick D will always be a hybrid so I'm not sure the "switching mostly to a 4-3" meme is a good one to build on.

I'm not so sure about this (I'm about 50-50 as to whether they extend Wilfork). Wilfork was originally a 4-3 DT at Miami, and was DAMN good. Perhaps by moving back to a 4-3, they're looking to unleash his true potential. We'll find out soon enough.

Ok, then when they go 3-4 they'll have Brace.

Vince WAS a great 4-3 DT, but that was 50 lbs. ago. Mayo is the main reason they switched to the 4-3. It makes no sense to limit your best player by putting him inside in a 3-4.

Just a comment to the Pryor vs. Brace issue: From what I understand, your draft status becomes meaningless as soon as you hit the practice field. The hope for a player based on his slotting is partly based on guess work.

If Pryor happens to be better, that's fine. I still think Brace is going to impact this D as well.

If that were true, you'd think the Ravens would've gone to a 4-3 years ago.

Wilfork did not weigh 280 lbs at Miami.

We don't even know yet what we have in Brace.

No, he weighed about 300, and if you believe he only weighs 325 now like the media guide says, I've got some swampland to sell you.

And, the Ravens were always 4-3 when Ray Lewis was in his prime (i.e., the Marvin Lewis years).
