Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month, and kicker Stephen Gostkowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, the league announced today. Mayo, a first-round selection (No. 10 overall) from Tennessee, led the team with 24 tackles in the month as the Patriots posted a 3-1 (.750) record [...]

Who got the Rookie Defensive Player of the Month award in Sept?

I REALLY want Mayo to get the NFL Rookie of the Year award.

It's separate awards for offense and defense. Mayo will definitely have a great shot if he keeps playing like he has. Chris Long has also played well so far, as has Chris Horton for the Skins (though he's more of an early-season fluke in my mind).

I'd give it to Mayo if the season ended today.

This is another nice side effect of Brady being out. In the eyes of the rest of the league we're no longer the New England Bradys and some of the other guys are getting the recognition they deserve. Not that it makes up for him being out, but it's a silver lining...
