Can someone instead tell me the point of Twitter?
It's a terrific way to obtain information from many different sources in a timely fashion, along with providing it. It's also a fun way to interact with people.
The best advice I can give you is if you try it, follow all the top people who you value their opinion of (Mike Reiss, Chris Price, etc.) and read what they post. You'll find as you add more you find out lots of little tips and insight that never reach a blog or a newspaper that you wouldn't have otherwise known.
As for the social aspect - that will take longer to figure out. Took me over 3-years before I started using it regularly, and it's definitely worth having and using.

I used to think Twitter would be a waste of time but when I finally got on it last weekend I quickly learned why it is so popular. The updates are great. I think most of us will be posting a lot of tweets today. I know I will.
I am now follow Ian, Patsfans.com, the other two posters, and ESPN AFC East on Twitter. I look forward to your tweets.
I added you, as well as Calciumee and fleabassist1 - and look forward to reading yours also
I only use it for news updates. Socially I know zero people on Twitter so unless you do you'll find yourself posting random thoughts wondering what for...
