We are ranked 3rd in Interceptions behind Baltimore and Chicago with 20 INTs
4th in total takeaways behind Balt-Chic-Min. 31 total takeaways

thats a great achievment. without the Takeaways i dont think we would where we are.

last year all together: 10 INTs and 18 takeaways all together ranking 2nd to last

doubled the INTs and made a huge leap in takeaways.

    gj Defense.

Last year it was so frustrating to watch the lack of turnovers.

This year the defense has done a much better job and it has really helped the offense. This past game the offense didn't need to do a whole lot because they got such short fields on a regular basis.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago, but I guess its time to update...

    From ESPN.com
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistics?stat=givetake&league=afc&year=2006

The Patriots have 16 picks on "D" and 11 fumble recoveries for a total of 27 takeaways

The Patriots have 12 picks on "O" and 12 fumble lost for a total of 24 giveaways

Grand total is +3. Sorry, but that ain't gonna cut it, real contenders have a higher + number.

In 2004 the Patriots were +9, 2003 they were +17 and there isn't a list for 2001, but I think it would be high. These were the SB years

Non SB years, the Patriots were +5 in 2002 and -5 last year,2005. I know it doesn't tell the whole story as to why the Pats didn't get to the SB, but I know if the Pats didn't turn the ball over 5 time last January in Denver, the Pats would have played at home vs the Steelers instead of the Steelers playing the AFC Championship game in Denver.

    Bottom line...

HOLD ONTO THE DAM FOOTBALL :enranged:

Accually 5th, and except for Cincinnati, all those teams are the front runners for the SB

But the real problem is fumbles lost, 15, (seems like a lot more don't it?) which is tied for next to last in the AFC with Cleveland, and the Raiders are last with 17. And I'm pretty sure those two teams won't be making any noise in the play-offs.

You're blaming the Offense but they're pretty close to being on pace to the SB years, and might even better a couple: 28, 24, 27 respectively

It's really the defense that's not creating the same amount of turnovers, BUT they got off to slow start in that dept this year. I seem to remember a countless number of doom and gloomers *****ing here about the lack of turnovers a few games into the season. Now people are lauding them. Funny stuff

I'm not blaming the offense as much as I sould be saying the the Patriots don't have the offensive ability to over come turning the ball over multiple times. They don't have the weapons anymore. During the SB years, while they didn't have great recievers, they had very good recievers that could elevate their game enough to make clutch catch when they needed it the most. What I've seen this year ( I admit it isn't a lot ) the reciever corp doesn't have that ability. This years Patriot team needs all the possesions that they can get and by fumbling the ball away, or having it bounce out of the recievers hands for a pick ( which didn't happen on the SB teams) is hurting more this year than it did before.

The defence back then was more able to create turnovers, and more important, was able to stop opposing offenses from capitalizing on the Patriots giveaways. Which is why I'm thinking Patriots need to stop turning the ball over, as a team they are struggling on both sides of the issue

    #12 Jersey

Take away Samuels INTS and we go FAR down that list...He is our MVP on defense so far this year IMO,I would say he has saved us in at least 2 games this year with crucial picks and if we don't keep him next year, the guys in the FO should be shot.

I gotta say that from a selfish point of view, i'm glad asante did not make the pro bowl this year. I hope this allows him to get re-signed here after the season.

Wouldn't have all those Int's if Wilfork, Seymour and Warren were not collapsing the pocket.. imo the defensive MVP this year is the D-line.

Right. And "take away" LT from the Chargers, or Manning from the Colts and they have squat.

Why do people insist we have to "take away" anything? We have what we have, and on defence this year that means Asante Samuel. Who knows what we have next year?

Take away the football and they'd be playing track and field. :D
