Trevor Matich: Fake spike "heinous"

I don't, either, but rest assured - if a D lineman went for Brady's legs, it would be the last game of the season for that guy. The O line would make damn sure of that!

Not to mention the other teams QB, how do think Wilfork, Warren and Seymour would react to a cheap shot on Brady? It is like the cold war, mutual destruction is assured.

Q) How do you keep a team focused when they believe they are the best?

A) Show them that everyone is picking on them, singling them out for unfair criticism they wouldn't aim at anyone else. Develop an oh-yeah-we'll-show-you attitude.

Bill Belichick is absolutely using the national media to get 110% out of his team. It occurred to me right after the game when I turned on ESPN Blitz expecting to hear them talk about what a great team the Pats are, etc. All they were talking about is running up the score and the Pats being "classless."

The funny thing is the Pats tried to do it last week, and when they did I KNEW exactly what they were doing and I am sure that I am not the only Pats fan that did. Basically what it comes down to is the Skins were not prepared for a play that the Pats have been show to run from time to time. If you can't prepare for the team you are playing you deserve whatever you get.

If the Skins ran this play up 21-0, he would have called it smart. Give me a break.

Until this year I had never seen Brady try a fake spike - Now its 2 trys in a row

The best fake QB spike I had ever seen was Marino on MNF against the Jets
That was a masterpiece fake that had EVERYONE confused except the Dolphins offense.

Before this year Brady never had a target named Randy Moss

No, what he is doing is showing the NFL what morons they were for fiing Vrabel.

They fined Vrabel like he was supposed to stop playing because the Browns were "Obviously" going to spike the ball. Look for a fake spike in every game from now on.

BB is on a mission. One, he says to the NFL, here's why we don't need to cheat, and two, he keeps everyone saying stupid anti-Patriot things.

PWP: Excellent on target observation. BB does not suffer fools (read NFL Competition committee) gladly. He loves doing stull that illustrates the stupidity of disfunctional rulings. He's in a target rich environment.

No one criticismed the Colts for Manning setting a passing record, but they are all over the Pats. Every week stupid reporters will ask opposing players, Do you think the Pats ran up the score on you. Most will say no, and they wil be ignored. One moron will say yea, and the talking heads will quote him, thus insuring the doom of whatever team the Pats play next week.

For years we said the Patriots lacked the Killer Instinct, that they always fell short of dominating teams.

Well, baby, you can kiss those days good-bye. These ain't your mama's Patriots.

It's almost as if the media is in an unwitting conspiracy with BB to motivate the team to break, no not break, to smash every NFL scoring and winning record.

yeah, i knew they were gonna try it again, and so did the skins DB's. Moss was blanketed by 2 and if not for the blatent 2 handed shove to the chest, that play is probably defended.

Do not forget all time NFL DB sack leader Rodney Harrison should it come to that. See sig below.

That's an excellent point. BB has a long memory, and he likes to find ways to make his points other than public statements. Think of how he's still playing out his Brady injury report gambit years after the initial imbroglio that spawned it. This would be a very typical BB response to a perceived misstep by the league.

Bingo! These are my exact thoughts, the league fined Vrabel for following his coaches instructions and 'playing through the whistle'. BB is sticking up for one his core veteran leaders by showing the league that a spike is not automatic. This is why veteran players love to play for BB.

Side note - I thought Moss pushed off on the TD but there was obvious pass interference on the deep ball to Moss in the 1st quarter so it all balance out.*
*Despite Troy Aikman's stating it was a good none call, why is it a good non-call when the CB has his arm wrapped around the WR? I usually don't care about so called announcer bias but the call was so obvious it damages his credibility to state anything contrary.

It was a terrible non-call and the lowlight of Aikman's really good announcing career, IMO. Usually he is on the money.

I think the only reason he did it tonight was he wanted to give Moss a chance at a TD grab. That seems to be what his comments after the game indicated.
Moss is like a Doberman. You have to feed him every so often to keep him primed.

Here's a crazy idea: don't assume anything. Just play, for the love of Pete.

Not only did they get suckered by a fake spike (which I told my wife they were going to do as they got to the line) but they left Vrabel completely uncovered on the goal line package, WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS HE'S THE FIRST OPTION ON A GOAL LINE PASS PLAY.

They're a stupid team.

In the stands folks could not believe how open Vrabes was. It was as if the Skins had never watched any film of the Pats red zone offense. Now BB says correctly that Vrabes runs great routes, but that was ridiculous.

I loved Watson's comments on a past Fifth Quarter when asked about Vrabel he said something like "Us TEs want to play OLB on 3rd and long so we can get some cheap sacks like Vrable gets." Hilarious.

I was amazed at how quickly the Pats got to the line and started the fake spike play. It seemed as if they must have planned it the day before. There wasn't even a huddle, right?
 There usually isn't a huddle before a spike-snap because you're tring to hurry up to stop the clock to begin with.

So, I called Fox Sports News to complain about Trevor's remarks (so did my dad). THe guy I spoe to was very nice and said they would be speaking to Trevor about them, but I don't know if anything will come of it. I had a nice little experience, pouring out my anger at the media in general (but in a fun way, since the guy was nice).

Matich sucked as a Pat. He sucks as a commentator, too.

Regards,
Chris

I'm sure someone else has already mentioned the fallowing, but I'll restate it anyways :)

1) The Redskins weren't fooled, they did try to rush Brady, and they covered Moss.
2) This isn't a new play, and I didn't hear these morons complaining when other teams tried it.
3) It was the SECOND QUARTER! It's not like this fake spike came during the last moments of the game, after NE was already up 38-0.

Some of these articles popping up of late throughout the internet are simply pathetic, and nothing more than a combination of sour grapes & Envy.

PS: The Patriots don't have a big target on their back, because of their supposed "running up the score". It's simply that when you're one of the best teams in the league everyone wants to knock you off.

yeah, i knew they were gonna try it again, and so did the skins DB's. Moss was blanketed by 2 and if not for the blatent 2 handed shove to the chest, that play is probably defended.

Yup, and if not for Sean Taylor arm hooking Moss' right arm we wouldn't have punted in the first half.

Two non-calls make a right!! ;)

Honestly, the play makes me nervous for the reasons he cites -- for the rest of the season, every time the Pats spike the ball the defenders will dive at Brady. Though the fact that they did it 2 weeks in a row almost makes me wonder whether they're courting that, looking for future penalties?

There is every reason to fear it. With this play, Brady forfeited professional courtesy.
