Is this something that ever happens ?

The reason I ask is that perhaps it would make sense for Miami to give up the No 1 pick in return for a stack of other draft picks ie Dallas's 2 first rounders plus another couple. If a team like the Dolphins is looking to rebuild maybe a clutch of high level picks beats the No 1 :eek:
 
It does happen, not too often. The two most recent I remember are Atlanta going from #5 to #1 as detailed here (from drafthistory.com) :

" * QB Michael Vick (1-1-01) to Atlanta from San Diego for RB LaDainian Tomlinson (1-5-01), DB Tay Cody (3-67-01), WR Reche Caldwell (2-48-02) and WR Tim Dwight.
* RB LaDainian Tomlinson (1-5-01) to San Diego from Atlanta (see above). "


Also the Ellie Manning trade was kind of the same as he was picked #1 but he was traded after being drafted.
