Holt makes a good point about using his instincts and years of experience to offset a small loss of speed. A savvy veteran can oft-times out fox the younger player and make the plays he needs to make.

I do like this signing, though it remains to be seen how everything pans out.

I'm surprised at the amout of negativity surrounding his signing. I have a good feeling about him, I think it could work. He won't be Moss, but we don't need him to be seeing as how already have Moss.

At the very least, it's better than nothing.

Sounds like his head is in the right place and it always helps to add a solid veteran presence and hopefully some leadership to a locker room that truth be told...can use it right now.

I think this means that Dez Bryant is off the board now though at $22....if the Pats ever actually had him as a prospect.

You say "nothing", I say "Sam Aiken." Pure semantics.

I like Holt but looking last year at Galloway its not all about speed, its about syncing with your quarterback - That will either seperate Holt better than Galloway or put him in the same boat.

All the speed in the world won't work if the routes you are supposed to run don't get executed and holding onto the ball is another thing.

Holt appears better than Joey..we will see

Re: Torry Holt: " I still have enough game speed to play"

Holt is a former all pro who runs a variety of routes...Galloway was/is always a straight line route runner...the only similarity between the two is they are both WR's...that's IT

I love this signing....He has already played in a prolific passing offense with the rams so he knows how to get open, run good routes and he will gel with TB unlike Joey did...

why would Dez be off the board...Holt is a one or two year player. Dez will be ready to go by then (training wheels off) and would have learned a lot from Moss, Welker, and Holt in those two years

People arent being negative about the signing, I think those people including myself just think that the team is still a quality WR short and need to add another quality/play making WR whether its through the draft, trade or FA

I think also, and I am too lazy to see if anyone has touched on this yet, but this seems like we are adding a quality locker room veteran. An area of need for this team.

Holt had 50 catches this past year on a run-first offense that featured a terrible offensive line and an injured QB who is middle of the pack at best. Game speed or no game speed, the guy can clearly still play.

Holt has shown that he can operate in a variety of offenses, he can learn a complex playbook and he can run a route. Already 3 plusses when compared to Joey Galloway. While not an exciting thought as a #2 while Welker recovers, he will make a damn fine #3/#4 when Welker returns.

Put me in the group that really likes this getting this player.

In the short term I even like him better than Holmes and think he will
be more productive. Just a gut feeling. I bet he's going
to be a great locker room guy also.

Let Revis cover Moss and while Cromartie TRIES to cover Torry. :D

Wow--as it stands right now, we have to have one of the oldest offenses in the league [but one of the youngest defenses]. Faulk, Moss, Crumpler, Holt, Taylor, Morris, Brady, and all of the O-line minus Kazcur are all getting up there. Maroney Edelman and Vollmer [who I think will be starting soon] are the only young 'uns right now.

This draft is really important. It's going to be fun--I'm going to try not to think about the Burgess trade too much.

Anyway, I think Holt is a great signing. He's just the type of wiley vet we need to plug in opposite Moss. Let's be honest, with chemistry seemingly being a BIG problem last year, did we really think the Pats would bring in guys like Marshall, Holmes, Vincent Jackson or TO?

A few additional comments from the interview.
It Is What It Is: Highlights from Holt Q&A - Christopher Price, WEEI
Says he wanted to play with an elite quarterback (was that a jab at Garrard?), making it a small group that he would consider playing for; lots of respect for Brady, mentioning his work ethic and dedication to film study.

In the last paragraph without mentioning his name Holt clearly distanced himself from Marshall Faulk when asked about Super Bowl 36:

Bledsoe used to rave about the way TB ran his routes and the way he used his experience and smarts to never run a route the same way twice.

I'm not saying they would or should draft dez, but I don't see how one has anything to do with the other.
