Tomase is apparently still writing about the Pats, even if it is for the Sporting News:

    Mayo Article

It actually is a pretty good article.

And in case anyone is wondering... comments are turned on for the article.

It's a shame that he's a lying fink or I'd be tempted to go read it.

Thanks for pointing out that he's still writing about the Patriots though... that is interesting. I wonder when he will finally just give up.

Growing up would be a nice switch for this board. Awesome article. Thanks to the OP for posting.

I read the aricle (not proud of it, couldn't help it). It was pretty good but nothing new, just a regurgitation of stuff - on the upside, Tomase doesn't appear to have made anything up in this article.

It's a really nice article in fairness, and there's a telling little snippet about Mayo and Crable's film-work.

There are other, lesser, boards you know. "Growing up" ? You do what you want others will do what they want. Everyone will react differently to someone who f*cks them (or in this case, their team) over.

It's a good snippet but it's old stuff from the rookie minicamp that had already been reported.

What assurances are there that he didn't make up Mayo/Crable midnight>coach phone calls??

Will Tomase now think this is some secret way of communicating, or did he just get dizzy??

"Belichick stands behind the rookie linebacker, coolly whipping a whistle around his finger in ever tighter concentric circles. Clockwise. Counterclockwise. Clockwise. Counterclockwise."

By the way.....if there are those boycotting the Herald - the link to the story was actually Sporting News.

Am I the only one who was slightly amused with the third paragraph of the article?

I'm sure that's by design and not a coincidence, Tomase - though I guess we can at least commend you for not making up a conversation to complete your story.

    - FYI, Sporting News uses local beat writers for all 32 teams to write weekly updates for their magazine and website, as well as an occasional full article like this one. (They use the Globe's Nick Cafardo for the Red Sox, for example.) Though I will begrudgingly admit that Tomase hasn't done that bad of a job in this position, it goes without saying that SN would be far better off with Reiss in that role. Although it could be worse: if I'm not mistaken, Tomase was actually an upgrade - replacing Felger a few years ago for info on the Pats at The Sporting News..

...unless you count his continuing insistence that Meriweather was drafted because of his exceptional speed.

It's just not his indefensible and irresponsible actions in making up a false story, it's been his whole manner and demeanor since.

If you watched his first appearance on Comcast Sports Tonight(used to be FSNE) in which he "explained his actions" you will understand. It was all I could do not to punch a hole through my TV screen watching this pompuos and arrogant p@#$k say he wasn't sorry and bash the pats with Felger. I will never ever read another article by him in any publication.

Not to divert the tone of the thread from Tomase Hatefast, but this sounded pretty good to me (and I hadn't heard it before):

"Mayo considers himself a film room junkie, and linebacker Shawn Crable, a third-round pick in April, says that during late-night study sessions this spring, the rookie linebackers often called the coaching staff at midnight and beyond with questions."

True - although Meriweather is positively speedy compared to Harrison and Sanders :)

Here's what was printed in May : Doesn't actually say Midnight so maybe Tomase had a little something new - or maybe he, you know, heard it might have happened ;)

    http://www.boston.com/sports/footba.../03/rookies_get_surprise_pep_talk_1209798720/

"Crable revealed the linebackers - who included Mayo, sixth-round pick Bo Ruud, and undrafted free agents Gary Guyton and Vince Redd - spent Thursday night in the hotel cramming with the playbook. Crable said the group had to call the coaches because they didn't understand what they were trying to learn.

Bill Belichick said that's fine by him. "That's what we get paid to do," he said. "We get paid to coach the players. We don't have the alumni functions and recruiting, and golf tournaments and all that. We coach the players, that's what we are here for.""
