I have never been a fan of Tom Curran.
I remember him picking against the Pats the majority of our 16-0 regular
    season.

He is always.... the glass is half empty when he talks about the Pats.

He should be taking heat after the recent news on Brady's recovery.

I do not forget all the attention he got when he talked about the complications Brady suffered and in one interview he said he would not be
suprised if he missed the entire 2009 season.

You were all wrong about Brady Tom Curran, and your sources suck.

Re: Tom Curran was all wrong about Brady's recovery.

Curran was right at the time that Brady had a major setback and infection to his knee.
We now know it was Brady's fault for trying too much, too soon.

At the time Curran's article was also potentially helpful to the Pats in increasing Cassel's value to the Pats, and thus his potential trade value.

When Curran reported this, the infection was already widely known about; he did not break this, IIRC. He was just the one who said that a re-do on the surgery was likely.

while i do think curran needs his ass kicked for being so adamant about brady's injury, he is a good guy.

But he WAY overstated it. Unless Brady is lying it was contained very quickly and was never a risk for a need to re-do the ACL as Curran said. His basis in fact was correct but his "story" was fantasy land.

You must be his brother or his ballwasher.
    The setback was known.
It was Curran's story that it meant something far more ominous. A story not based on fact. Bad sources. Bad job.

Curran was also 100% wrong when it came to the F-tag with Cassel. He was on Comcast Sports and was saying that the Pats would not dear to put the tag on Cassel becasue they have to fly straight and level becase of spy gate.

Re: Tom Curran was all wrong about Brady's recovery.

And later when it became clear they would he kept insisting it would only be as a hedge against Brady not being ready and would be done to retain him. At $14.6M...

It never ceases to amaze me that sports reporters, even the dogged ones, tend not to be very adept common sense analysts.

I always wondered which genius tapped him for MSNBC. Even while still at the pro jo he was falling behind his peers in the blogging age due in part to the need to get to his kids games. It's a young mans game today and you have to be all in or you get lapped. I guess King had something to do with his getting the job. Probably on his own as far as keeping it, though. Tom E. hasn't had an exclusive since the Brady contract delay in 2005, and that story was spoon fed to him by the Brady camp to send a subtle public message based on he would run it and then let it go.

Curran was good when he was just a local reporter ...
then he went national and felt a need to create stories ... :bricks: .

Yup Brady and his fans showed all the doubters. The recovery is now complete, and we'll all be smiling like proud papas when Brady starts in this weekend's Pro Bowl after another memorable and successful season.

Wait, the Pro Bowl is when?

Re: Tom Curran was all wrong about Brady's recovery.

The infection with Brady's knee happened in the first couple of weeks after the initial surgery and they also went back in during that time and took care of it. Curran was nearly 3 months late with his story.

As others mentioned, Curran was also wrong about the Franchise Tag and Cassel.

I called out Curran back in January about the story.

Icy Patriot is absolutely correct about Tom Curran. Too much self importance, too fast.

Wow, you started poorly and ended poorly. As for Tom Curran, his piece was widely and wildly misrepresented here, which is sadly all too common. You might want to revisit this story, and Curran, generally, before starting these sorts of threads.

Curran got called out on WEEI, too, while he was on the air to defend himself. He shouldn't have written the piece. I expect that he'd admit that in private.

Well, since the story was public, his admission ought to also be public. It will never be.

How was the story "wildly misrepresented here"?

I didn't say that he'd admit he was wrong. I do think he'd admit that, in retrospect, he shouldn't have run the story with what he had. It was nothing that reporters don't do all too often in today's media. He just got burned with it.

He screwed the pooch on the Brady Knee story, but I still like him.. find him to be more knowledgeable than most...

With respect to his picking the other team during the 16-0 run.. he was using the point spread to make his decisions.. I heard most of those predictions, he never believed that the Pats would loose.. just the point spread favored his picks. Some weeks during that run the spread was ridiculous...

I tend to agree here...I do like him and find him one of the better ones of the few writers from here that has gone national. He's not the screamer like Ryan, who seems to want to be louder than the ESPN folks, now that he's a has-been writing wise, or the "look at where I am now" snottiness of Breer, who I really thought had a lot going for him when local and now is way too full of himself. He was wrong on this with much wild speculation in a negative manner, but that does happen sometimes. I don't agree sometimes with his predictons, but he's a good guy and NOT like some of the other pompous jerks that seem to be so numerous when covering sports.
