Nine months from now, Patriot Nation will be +1.

    Congratulations!

You must be on cloud 9 (which might explain the strange math, either that, or it was a non-traditional method).............

Congratulations.... I guess, after your post about Rodney and peeing, it's kind of appropriate (or it will be).

First of all congratulations - unlike Tom I assume you were trying - or at least not "not trying"

Beyond that I can't help but laugh when I come across guys (and girls) who are going to be parents for the first time. Not like I'm an expert with 2 kids (still can't believe that myself) but, I guess the best way to put it is, "you have no idea about all the things you have no idea about."

I say that to give you a little peace of mind more than scare you - no one knows what the hell they are doing going into the parenthood thing in my opinion... and the vast majority of people will amaze themselves at their ability to adapt. And there's nothing anyone can really do to help prepare you anyways ... you just have to figure it out for yourself like everyone else did (really puts any of your own parent's shortcomings in perspective, I'll tell you that much)

That being said, it is friggen tough. Whatever your lifestyle is today - forget about it - its gone, or will soon be... but don't look back and lament for a second.

And from a guy's perspective, while the mama instantly bonds, I'd say its a good year before the Papa really gets into the swing of things - first 6 months its just a crying, eating, pooping and pissing machine that will let you sleep occasionally if you are lucky.

But once they actually begin to get a personality - they are pretty damn cool. And once you get through the first year, watching them become people, learn to walk, talk, discover etc - is just incredible and before you know it, they have completely stolen your heart... of course at that point you'll figure you're ready for No. 2 and that's 10x harder (my boy's 1 in May and girl's 3 in June) but we'll cross that bridge when you get to it.

But for now - congratulations .... just keep looking forward and I can promise no matter how tough it gets, you'll find out its all worth it.
